Last night I was in Walker of course I had BaWaaJige with me. I wasnt feeling too well and I really didnt feel like walking around town so I was doing some obedience with in the parking lot of the community center. When a friend ( well I have known her for 12yrs we dont hang out but usually have good converstations) pulled up to get her son. She stops and watches Jige and then she starts calling him and telling him to come to her and I had in a sit/stay. He stayed but when I released him he ran to her instead of coming to me . She is laughing thinking this is just funny. I am trying to control my temper  ( I have trouble in that area I get mad fast and furious). I asked why she did this. She thinks it is stupid to train dogs. ( I have been wanting to use this smiley). After she left I put JIge back in a sit/stay and we had a successful re-call :D. Jige is only 10.5 mos and it good but I wouldnt say he is 100% reliable especially when soemone is calling him and he is a SOCIAL BUTTERFLY.

Sorry this is long I just needed to vent.

I would never do this to a friend or acquaintance. That being said, I did do this to my brother:D

I don't know what I would have done. I would be fuming too. You did well to keep your temper in check and just continue with your pups training.

STUPID TO TRAIN DOGS! That is one of the most stupid remarks I have ever heard. She must not have a dog or else pays little attention to it.

I think it's awesome that anyone takes the time to take their dog out and train them. I took my 1 year old (when he was 10 months) out to a social gathering for an enitre weekend and I was told by numerous people that they were extremely pleased to see how much work I've put into him. I think an untrained dog is not a good idea, and mostly a very quick way to loose them for various reasons. I chose to have a dog, to raise him and train him, and I hope that is for a good long time. Phoenix is as well a very social butterfly and he's still learning to not just go say hi to everyone, but I'm not sure how well that'll work, cause I like the fact that he's so friendly to everyone. Just have to somehow teach him to control his excitement.

Good job with the training, and keep it up!

I know I spend alot of time training Jige. I am always looking for new ideas and places to take to him to expose to new things. We train everyday starting today we will traveling 3 times a week to do training ( twice a wkk in walker on our own and therapy classin Bemidji). In about 2wks it will 4 times a week( hunt training on monday nights). I have always had dogs but it wasnt until about 9yrs ago that I really got into training. Then I finally had the money and decided to get a dog that I could do ukc/akc events with. I want my dog to best the best he can be I want to prove to myself that I can train a dog to be the best he can be.

Some people are unbelievable! I took my daughter to dance class today and got into a discussion about dogs and this know it all guy has the nerve to tell me that golden retrievers are the worst for dog bites! I had to keep my temper in check because it is a class of 3yr olds but wow what is this guy smoking! Sorry to jump in with my venting but had to get it out!

If you're in a public place, and you don't have a sign out that says "I'm training my dog, please don't call him over to you, " I don't think you really can expect people to automatically know you don't want them to do that. However, her comment that training is stupid is just that..........stupid.

I have been training my dog in the parking lot there for over 6mos on tuesday and thursdays. Most every one that is there knows that I am training him. I have people stop to ask what I am training. She knows I am training my dog. I have talked to her about it enough times. She was just trying to get Jige to mess up. I guess that is why I had a hard to control my anger.

Oh come on you just have to laugh at people who say things like that, and have some compassion. It's not their fault that G-d made them that stupid!

I have a "friend" who knows EVERYTHING! Really she does and if you don't believe me just ask her - she'll tell you, she's an expert. When she told me that there are different rules for Remy in her house I said no, there are not different rules anywhere for MY dog, and if she preferred I would be happy to leave with MY dog. But that it was far more important to me that Remy be welcome everywhere I go, vs be allowed to get away with whatever she allowed only at her house.

Some one else then pointed out that her dog (a Yorkie) never goes anywhere, why is that - and she had to admit that she can't control his barking (he sounds like a duck) and humping, so he's got to stay home.

I was a lady, didn't say a word.
