Thinking of Adopting a Golden Retriever
I have had a Golden Retriever before for 13 years and she was awesome! 3 Years ago I purchased a Lab and have had him ever since he was 7 weeks old. We have no issues with him apart from every now and then not listening and he has always gotten along with other dogs.
Today I picked up a 14 month old Golden a friend of mine was unable to keep him due to her sons allergies and I couldn't bare to see the dog go to the shelter. Before she had him he was with a family with 2 young children unfortunately they got divorced and when the wife and kids left the Husband was unable to care for him and he spent 14 hours a day in a crate.
Ever since he got here the dogs have been going at each other NON stop. It is not aggressive just very playful but I am worried one of them will go too far and one of them is going to get hurt. They both continue to bite each others legs, necks and mouths and they are both trying to mount the other. I have let them run around in the snow outside several times but they just keep going at it to the point that both of them are so tired they are laying down but they are still biting at each other.
Hunter (the Golden) has been bounced around a lot and I would really like to make this work, our house is the 4th or 5th place he has been placed and I would really like to make it work for him but if this is how it is going to continue to be I'm afraid we just won't be able to keep up.
What can I do to encourage them to relax and play nice! I'm sure walks will help but seriously after 3 almost four hours STRAIGHT of chasing each other I am not sure I will be able to take them on a long enough walk to wear them out!!
*EDIT* FYI both are males and moth have been neutered. Kado (Lab) was neutered when he was 6 months old and Hunter when he was 10 months old.
Also it seems as though Hunter pees when he gets excited is there something we can do to stop this. We have also been told he suffers from Mild Separation Anxiety which we have yet to experience as we haven't had him very long. Will the fact that we have another dog solve this?
