Where exactly is Rainbow Bridge ?

I have seen too many of my kids and hundreds of other pets go that place we all call Rainbow Bridge. Today, as I was taking Grace to the park, I was staring at the beautiful blue skies we are seeing here in South Texas, and imagined the Bridge to be somewhere in that great limitless void we call heaven with Rainbow Bridge, a special part of that heavenly place we all go to after we leave this earth.

I thought deeply about this and all of a sudden it hit me. Rainbow Bridge does exist. Where is it? Its in our hearts. Each of us pet moms and dads has a special place in our hearts where our pets go after their spirits are released from the pain and suffering of their earth bound bodies. They join their siblings and our own departed and live within us. Always loved. Always cared for. Always close to us.

When we die, all of us go to to that place we call Heaven where we are eternally together. We all cross the Bridge together, hand in paw. Free of pain.

I know this sounds kinda off the wall, but this is how I imagine it to be. There is not a day that goes by when I do not think or picture Sofie and Lilliegrace and all the other pets I have sent to the Bridge. I dream of them, I hear them and I look at their pictures in the thousands of photographs in my albums and videos. Some days, I swear, I feel their presence next to me.

Or, more literally, it is in Bridge City, Texas.

I feel their presence next to me too. The rainbow bridge varies in a persons eyes as goldensrbest mentioned. I think of mountains and rivers personally as that is me. I posted this of Tucker in our backyard and someone said "hey, that is the rainbow bridge" if so, fine with me :) I am a adventurer at heart so there is no one place for us. We will make the rounds.

Lupines in NH, great trip that was, June '09 A glorious scent in the air.

Think this sign along the trail there said a lot, to me anyway.

See you once again my friends. It will be a glorious reunion.

How I miss them so....

The bridge, to me, is filled with spirited wagging dog tails, with joyful laughing puppy eyes and that never ending "happy dance". Beau taught me about that special place with his celebration of life that remains ever present in my heart....

There is an internet story that passes around every few years it goes something like this:

An old man and his dog walked the path to heaven, it was long and they were getting tired. They saw in the distance a gate of glowing white and as they neared they heard singing, saw big buildings of shimmering gold. The sight was more than mortal men have ever seen. The man stood as straight and tall as he could with his old bones and patted his leg where his hand could touch his dog and he knocked on the gate. The gateman told the man to enter, but his dog would have to stay outside. The man considered this, looked down the deserted road, back to the beauty awaiting him, then to his dog. The dog looked into his eyes, soul touched soul. The Man took a breath and told the gate keeper "Thank You" but we will go on.

So again the Man and his beloved Dog traveled, sore and weak and eventually arrived at a second gate. This gate was a bit rusty and didn't close all the way. He could see no beautiful city, no glowing buildings, but instead he saw mountains, endless green pastures. Out side the gate was a well. Before going to the old gate, the Man paused to get his dog a drink, then himself. When he looked up his dog had left his side and was happily greeting the gate keeper. The Man walked over and asked for admittance. The Gate Keeper gladly opened his gate, but as the Man and his dog walked into the pasture...asked the Man why he chose his gate and not the Beautiful Golden Gate he passed before. The Man turned and said "I want to be where he (Dog) will be!

That is my heaven.

I have to agree that the rainbow bridge is deep within my heart. As much as I love Nugget who is currently snoozing on the patio next to me, there is a part of me waiting on one end of the bridge reaching out to pet dear Sagebrush, Buckskin, and Brewer.

In my mind, the bridge is that very special and personal place where no one else can reach but my goldens and me.

My mama told me that the animals and our human loves reside at the meadow. It is a glorious place. Rolling hills and weeping willows, a babbling brooke filled fishes of all colours, there are butterflies and dragonflies dancing on the soft breezes. All the animals are happy and healthy they romp and play until the sun sets and then as the moon beams dance across the meadow they slumber and dream of the day we will join them.
