Amber was attacked!!!

After 3 hours at a grievance appeal hearing meeting today I got home... Fell asleep... And was woken up by the worse phone call ever!!!

My husband was on the phone and he said: "I am at the vet! Amber was viciously attacked by two rottweilers... I think you should come down she is traumatised!!"

I went upstairs screaming, grabbed my daughter and we went to see our baby.. She was lying on the floor as the nurse at the vet had kindly given her some pain relief...

We all cuddled her and find it hard to hold our tears in... She had to be taken to a nearby emergency clinic to be sutured...

Whilst waiting for Amber in the waiting room, my husband explained that it was our pet shop owner's dogs who'd escaped, ran out of the shop, and simply went for Amber who was on her way back from a walk in the park...

My husband had to use his body to cover Amber in order to protect her from the vicious dogs!! He even bit one of them as his hands were over Amber... He was lying on the pavement wrestling with them and no one helped...

Luckily this happened opposite our local vet and the nurse let my husband and Amber in even though they were closed... He was amazing... After given Amber her pain relief, he printed her history on the computer and phone the clinic ahead of time letting them know that we were coming...

This happened 4 hours ago and we are still under shock... Amber has a big scar on her neck and her front left leg is also damaged by several bites but they are too small to be sutured... She has been pumped up with drugs and has been sleeping since we came home...

I am too upset right now to think about how to deal with the owner of these vicious animals... However, to begin with I want him to pay for all Amber's bills for the next two weeks... After that I am not sure if I should report these dogs or sue them as my husband was also injured and bitten...

Any advice would be welcomed!

I suspect we are all going to be in shock for a while but I understand that it is important to get Amber back on her walk asap to prevent any behaviour problems... Right now Amber is my only priority...

Oh wow, I can't begin to tell you how sorry I am that you all are going through this. Please keep us posted on how Amber is doing.

I don't have any experience to offer on this, but I can't imagine not reporting this to the authorities. And asking for all vet bills to be reimbursed.

Yes, I think you should ask for all vet bills for now and the near future that would deal with this incident. I think you should ask for any bills that would incur from your husband being bitten as well. Doesn't it have to be reported if they bite a human? I would also demand that dogs not be in the store or if they are they must be restrained on a leash that is tied down to something.
I am So sorry for this. You must be in a complete state of shock.

First of all, I am so sorry that Amber (and your husband) were injured in an attack!

I would definitely let the shop owner know that you expect him to pay any bills related to the incident. Not just vet bills, but doctor bills for your husband. I would have it put in writing.

Your husband is my hero! Throwing himself over Amber to protect her was so brave!

Good thoughts and prayers to your whole family!

OMG, how horrific!!! Make sure your husband is also seen, and, at least here, I believe bites need to be reported. Certainly the very LEAST the owners of the Rotties need to do is take care of ALL the medical bills ( Amber and your DH). Give Amber some gentle kisses from us and a big smooch for DH for being such a hero. He probably saved her life! Please keep us posted. Many prayers coming your way.

I am so sorry this happened to your husband and Amber - how terrifying. I think that you should report this. Suppose it was a parent walking their dog with a small child and the dogs went after the child? Your dog today, whos dog tomorrow?

I just wanted to say that I am so sorry to hear that she was attacked by other dogs. I hope that no permanent damage was done and she is back to her old self soon.

Of course reporting this is a no brainer, why wouldn't it be? Two Rotti's attack a dog and human unprovoked, they were obviously not trained pets.

Hope your Amber and husband recuperate quickly and the Amber can recover emotionally from that and not be afraid of other dogs. How old is Amber?

I am so sorry this happened, I hope both your husband and Amber will be ok.

I think you need to take every action available against the dogs and the owners, they are dangerous, not being controlled, and should not be allowed loose in any public area.

Oh that is terrifying. Your DH is a hero. I am so sorry this happened. I pray that Amber and your husband heal quickly and I also think that the owner needs to pay all bills related to this for Amber and your husband. I also think this needs to be reported....Thank GOD...cant even dare to think what could have happened. Please keep us posted on Amber and your husband. xxoo

Well the pet shop owner (whom we know well) actually came to meet us at the clinic and he appeared to be concerned about Amber and he was full of apologies and kept saying that he will go back to the shop to try and find out what happened via the CCTV..

I told him that I do not need to know any more details and that what I already know is sufficient!! Your dogs attacked my husband and my dog! I have already asked him to pay for the bills over the next two weeks.. Will draw up a little contract if necessary...

There are not bills for people in the UK, the NHS pays for it all as we pay monthly contributions from the day we start working.

My husband is my hero too as he also really bit one of the dogs to get it off Amber!!

Thank you for your kind words...

I am sorry that this has happened to Amber and your husband and I hope there is no lasting damage, emotional or physical. I think you have a duty to report this attack to the police and the RSPCA and you should do so - The petshop owner has two very dangerous dogs and people need to be safeguarded to ensure that it cannot happen again. These dogs were clearly out of control and are large powerful dogs as well as being dangerous. They should have been unable to get loose and they have bitten a human (which is an offence) as well as attacking your dog. As someone else has said it could have been a child walking a dog and the consequences if that had happened don't bear thinking about. I think it is only sensible to report this attack.

Our hearts are with both Amber and your husband. Im so sick of these attacks. Its like we see one every week now. Im sorry but i say "Report the owner and the dogs". If we do not do something about these people and animals we are just making everything worse by letting those people think they can have pets which can attack others and get away with it. I know you are stressed and dont need anymore so it would probably be hard. What would our pets do for us if were the other way round?

What a horrible thing to happen. You should tell the authorities. The dogs need to be tested for rabies. Here they would be quarantined. I hope your family heals quickly. So sorry this happened! K

Very, very sad story. Sure hope you husband and Amber get better soon. I am sure you have all been traumatized and it will take a bit to recover. It is hard to conceive that a pet shop owner would have such dogs in their shop, but you never know. I do hope you report this to the authorities. These dogs need to be confined so they cannot do it again.

That is terrible. My heart goes out to Amber, your hero husband and family. I agree that I would ask for full reimbursement of ALL the vet bills occurred from this incident and I would not put a time limit on it, as you may still need therapy, medications etc. down the road. I would also without a doubt report this! Something needs to be done to make sure that this (or heaven forbid worse) doesn't happen again. If the dogs bit your husband they should NOT be allowed in a public store! Tied up or otherwise. I'm appalled at the fact that he owns a pet store and obviously cannot even manage and train his own pets! Hope you all have a speedy recovery and can be back to normal soon!

How frightening for everyone. My first golden, Sally was attacked by a rottie when we were doing recalls in obedience class. She had no wounds, but both of us were severely traumatized. It was a looong time before she would do recalls without hesistation... One of my close friends has rotties and we go to conformation shows together. Ringside, I am so loosey goosey with the leashes and my dogs. She is always hyper vigilant. It is nice to have a breed you don't have to be on guard with... Hope everyone heals ok!

That is just so scary. Thank goodness both of them were not more seriously injured. Your husband is also my hero for biting one of the dogs and covering her body with his. That is very brave. I would totally have the shop owner pay all the medical bills for Amber plus if your husband has to miss any work for his time for being out.
Also make sure the dogs have all their shots up to date. I dont know your relationship with the owner but if it was me, I would contact the authorities to make sure they dont have any past history.

Prayers that both of them have a uneventful recovery. Please give Amber a big kiss. And your hubby to for being our hero to her.

I'm so sorry for you and Amber. Of course you have to report it and I would also get them to pay the vet bills. I would also talk to a lawyer about a lawsuit since they bit your husband. What if this had happened to a child as they were walking their dog? I hope that Amber willl get better soon.

Oh, I'm so sorry! How absolutely awful! I can't imagine what a sense of helplessness that would create! What a brave hubby! Kisses to Amber!
