My plans for Aug so far

Prepare Towhee & Brady to resume Utility showing

Take courses and webinars

Match with some Utility judging on Aug 4 (Towhee/Aedan will be showing)

Core class with Aedan on the 11th

Aedan has a professional grooming on the 28th
Aedan has a CCA event on the 31st

I need to verify but I believe drop in classes are available each weekend on Saturdays (Aug is partially posted).

Continuing to up my focus & proofing criteria for Towhee & Brady. I also need to enter them in a few more trials. Towhee will hopefully hold off until late Oct to go into season.

I need to decide if I will be heading to an FDSA northeast get together ...

I was thrown for a bit of a loop and scrambling some to decide how to handle vet emergencies as my 24/7 vet has to at least temporarily halt their overnight availability. I have spoken with them, a very local vet (like a 5 minute walk from my home) and a few others as to my options. My current vet will actually transport my dogs as needed back & forth to a 24/7/365 facility with a vet tech as needed for critical care overnights .... so I am currently learning towards staying with them. They plan to have techs 24/7 for non critical overnights who will have phone access to a covering vet. But remembering King, Rowdy and Towhee needing critical care and the constant updates and treatment plan authorizations does have me concerned... a client service person and the head vet have both reached out to me with reassurances.

This morning Towhee & Brady went to Utility Run Thrus/class.

The both had minor mistakes but would have qualified had it been a trial so I would consider it a win

Brady had a wonky about turn (we reset and I did a fast coming out of the turn -- he tightened right up) and was slow going out & back for his first article as well as an angled front on that same article (probably a full point in total maybe 1.5 points if the judge were to hit twice for the lack of briskness going & returning). Towhee pointed out something I goofed up on and have not trained!! Bad handler.

She did a turn & stand on her first go out. Now usually I reset and/or simply don't reward her by allowing her to take the jump. BUT! it is a points off error, simply points off so we started the process (not long) of okay, baby girl, you can still jump from a stand! Not how I want it to happen obviously but she is most likely nearing the end of her obedience career after all. And yes she is very capable of beautiful work but now is not the time to fuss LOL

Anyway she did well -- I also made a handler error with her --my stride shortened up during the slow pace and since it was a long slow pace, she did start moving forward of her normal heel position -- not fully forged but ahead of her usual position.

Now off to load the Xterra for tomorrow, train the other dogs and finish up chores and such

Long day LOL

Towhee had her 2 Utility runs and she is practically there A few technical things that may cause her points and I do need to train her to jump after a stand.

Aedan knows his exercises but needs confidence -- his heeling was really nice though! Really nice, broad jumps & awesome DOR but Command Discrimination and fronting with the dumbbell need some practice.

Overall a pleasant day with good people and friends!

As a funny note, at the lunch break there was a fetch it up game after the raffle. The point was to toss objects for fetching between start & finish lines as many times as you could for 30 seconds -- tosses had to go beyond the 50 foot line and the dogs had to return the items. Now this was a golden club so you might expect goldens to rule? Not quite.A golden tied a sheltie for most retrieves!! Since there were medals for High Golden and High all breed, the winners were declared. It was.... well kind of hilarious, bad throws, dogs trying to grab 2 toys, toys bouncing off the rafters and at one point interference with by a wandering dog ...

Last weekend was Eevee's first conformation show (Beginner Puppy) and she took BOB and Sporting Group 1! Super proud of this puppy! It was my first time in the conformation ring too, so not bad for my firs time handling!

Yesterday, we went back to conformation class - our teacher just happened to be stewarding last weekend - and we had a great time. Eevee is getting better and better about standing still for the judge's examination and I learned a better way to show her bite, which has been a struggle so far. Her free stack is improving, but she still wants to stand with one foot in front of the other sometimes, so we need to work on that. I've entered her in her first real shows next month in the 6-9 class, so hopefully we're ready by then!

Spent my lunch hour making a detailed plan on how to address the issue I am seeing with Aedan's front on retrieves

Probably should have headed to the gym but feel my planning may be a better use of my time today LOL and yeah, the problem will prevent us from showing so needs to be addressed ..

Last night Towhee, Brady & I headed to a local park. I confess to being a bit nervous when I saw 2 patrol cars with chatting officers in the lot since I did intend to do some off leash work LOL; I did do my planned training after letting the officers know I was training some distance work but my dogs were advanced in their training.

Next to the busy basketball courts we did heeling with long slows, double abouts followed by signals. The did well. I think I will change up that particular location since they are becoming very adept about ignoring the distractions. Then we moved to the tennis courts for Go Outs with tennis balls, rackets etc

Then home where Faelan, Aedan & Finch started learning the slant board and doing some working with the pivot plank. They had fun

After way too long off... I finally did some just me and Rocket work last night. We worked on Novice exercises: heeling on and off-leash, recalls, long stays, etc. He was happy to be working, but was a bit rusty at first. It was hot in the backyard and the flies were AWFUL! I'm actually really proud of him for sitting still for the full minute with the bugs buzzing around his face. We also tried some position change work for Open, and he will not do a kickback stand for some reason unless I am right in front of him. I think I need to work him on the grooming table or something so he understands not to move his front feet.

I also brought Eevee out for some Obedience training too. She is still wanting to gait instead of heel, so I'm thinking I may need to make a big show of switching collars and using different commands for gaiting versus heeling. At least she likes to gait though. :-)

Grins. Your post reminded me of something Ms Finch did last night.

I used the training/dog room last night for the board & plank work. This room has their grooming table with stairs in it and I generally don't worry about leaving treats on the table. The older dogs have the whole zen thing down and Finch doesn't generally volunteer to go on the table (she still needs to be cued). So where were the treats? On the table! Where did her shaping session have her going? On the table LOL I did end up moving the treat bowl since zen was not in her game plan

Wicked storms again last night so I did not train the dogs.

This morning was scent articles at various levels
Finch was delighted that she was actually being sent to retrieve something 'dead' -- just a single metal followed by a single leather with fronts & holds
