This morning Towhee, Brady & I headed to Utility drop in class & Run thrus. Shall we leave it at I am happy these were not a trial?

I have just run Faelan, Aedan & Finch through ladder drills which they know and crawling under 2 cavaletti which they were just introduced to -- Faelan, being the largest & oldest dog had the toughest time crawling without hitting the bars, Aedan did fairly well and Finch did not have to be on her belly so I will need to figure out a stable way to lower the bars Finch & Aedan also did a few weave pole dances

Last night I watched (and took notes) on a Dog Body language webinar -- it was an advanced session and I made it through about 45 minutes before I simply had to hit the pillows.

I do plan on picking up the rest of it ; possibly this weekend Probably not tonight though, since I am again not really in a frame to learn -- just had an awesome massage and facial to relieve some of the pain I have been having -- thought I went light enough in this morning's workout (back, chest, shoulders) but apparently not since she found a lot of tightness in exactly the areas worked LOL

I take fitness challenges where the creator plans out your workouts (and for those that can follow them, she make detailed meal plans) ; she is highly qualified (an IFBB Figure Professional and four-time Figure Olympia champion. she has a BA in Wellness, Health Promotion and Injury Prevention with a focus in Exercise Science from Oakland University and am an IFPA Certified Personal Trainer who was named the Personal Trainer of the Year in 2012.); tomorrow's is a general session and those are usually really interesting and I learn a lot, so right now I am planning on participating in that and might go directly into the advanced body language webinar -- depends on the weather and how much I get done with the rest of my To Do List. Aedan has his class on Core work tomorrow after dog food pickup, then I have a bunch of other things to do.

Wowsers !! Aedan is exhausted after his core conditioning class - there were so many stations he had no clue how to do so it was tough both mentally & physically ... he definitely does not know how to climb up on things and has (as I suspected) limited rear end awareness -- yes, he can backup, and climb stairs and such but reaching a back foot to rest on a foot pod while keeping his front end stationary -- not so much. But he rocked many of the stations he has seen before like crawling and ladders and pivot pots and things like that but as an example walking backwards through a fairly high ladder was not happening -- in retrospect I should have flipped the ladder over for him so the rungs were within an inch or two of the floor which is exactly how I will work it at my house Air filled unstable rocking surfaces were also not easy for him -- he'll get there since he is cleaver but I felt kind of like a rank beginner LOL Why I went, right?

Aedan also went for food pickup with me and did some heeling, command discrimination, drops etc while we waited. The delivery was running 15 minutes behind schedule so I kind of wished I had brought another dog or 2 LOL But he made his class after that so all is good.

Towhee & Brady went for extended hikes so I may not be working them today ..

The instructor emailed me this pic from the Core class with the following commentary:

I saw lots of smiles, and I just loved the way you connect to him - AND - support him.
Nice work!

I maybe should have mentioned

The core class with Aedan is not only for his general fitness but also as a step in my 'perfect fronts' training plan for him. He seems to need more than platform work etc... he tries so hard to be totally right and I suspect that once he has all 4 legs (and spine) working freely seperate from the others, he will nail those fronts & finishes.

It is actually a new learning experience for me too since hiking, swimming, platform work-not to mention the sheer number of stairs my dogs have to navigate-have always seemed to teach my dogs that their hind legs have a driving power that can be seperate from their front ends...but until he learns to do things like sit at an angle on unstable surfaces I cannot really expect him to safely navigate an agility course at maximum speed.

Thus morning I beat the storms

Faelan, Towhee, Brady & Aedan had heeling, signals, ladder work, dog walk, go outs & directed jumping

Finch had heeling, stands (in some tall crab grass and yeppers she started to graze), waits and recalls.

Attempted to have a couple of dedicated training sessions with each dog by themselves the other day, and only with toys... Either they were both really rusty or not quite toy driven enough to want to focus. I got all of two minutes of focus out of Rocket and since he didn't want to engage with me, he got put back in the house - I think it may have really worked too. Eevee, I think, is just a bit too young to start asking for too many things with a toy as a reward. I could see the confusion in her eyes a couple of times, even though she LOVES to retrieve, so we just called it quits for the day. BUT, at least I learned something new about my dogs.

I've admittedly been slipping on 2-minute drills, lately, so trying to get back into that at least a couple of times a day. Especially with Eevee, since she only has a few months of doing commands and tricks, versus Rocket's 4 years. Still haven't tried the grooming table thing with him, but I will this weekend once I get it out of the trunk of my car...................... where it's been since Eevee's show a few weeks ago.

Today's drop-in run thrus went much better than last weeks

Brady was laggy due to concern with a barky GSD (dog annoys the heck out of me since he handler won't do anything to shut the dog up so Brady may also pick up on that) but overall did well especiallt considering the commotion

Towhee was up & at 'em today She only had issues with the MSFE -- the instructor was mildly proofing her and well, Towhee fell for the proofs LOL

Now I will be heading to a park followed by a grocery store drop-off/meet up to donate some Yoga videos -- probably just Aedan will go since it is warm & kind of humid so best not to have dogs hanging in the car due to people not able to mind their own business and not having a clue as to what the signs of a distressed dog are. But then again there is a Pails for Tails right there today so perhaps the ACO & crew would be able to educate them? Nah , probably not LOL

Yesterday's rental was a mixed bag for sure

First I was almost 10 minutes late arriving due to traffic, but the rental before me was just packing up when I arrived. She is a member of my e tended dog family but I have not seen her in awhile so we chatted and chatted and chatted LOL

She has 1 dog prepping for Utility, I have 2 so wwe made loose plans to combine or rentals and provide distractions & run through food each other.

Meanwhile it was a very muggy & hot night so I let Faelan, Towhee, Aedan & Finch loose in the building and they had a grand time. Brady was in the crate in the Xterra with the gate open.

So, my rental ended up being about 45 minutes but we got a lot done! Finch was totally game on for retrieving gloves!

All the dogs did well (Heeling, signals, go outs, directed jumping, gloves for the older dogs. Heeling, recalls, gloves and dendaways for Finch)

Then back home for supper

Had individual training sessions with both dogs last night and they both did great! I think Rocket's problem with heeling has been that I haven't been walking fast enough. So, I tried basically power-walking and wouldn't you know it, he kept up and paid attention with head mostly up and looking at me. Most importantly, we both had fun. He did really well on about turns and left turns, but lagged a bit on the outside turn of the figure eight so we will work on that some more next time. We also worked on stays and recalls for Novice. His sit-stay could use a bit more drilling, but overall he did well.

Eevee is now 6 months old and I am still luring her a bit, but I worked on fading the lure for heeling last night. She also likes to go fast, but then again, she likes to do everything fast. LOL Her recall is really good, just need to work on sitting straight and I'm still trying to teach finishes both directions, but she learns fast. I just need to work with her more. I don't plan on even attempting any Rally or Obedience with her until sometime next year anyway. We took a couple of weeks off from conformation class, but will hopefully get back there this weekend.
