Update on Finch. She tore the entire shell of her nail off and will be on limited activity for the foreseeable future until it heals. A friend had this happen with one of her dogs and said it took a few weeks to harden up and a few months for the nail to be fully healed. So I declined the invite to start her in agility classes with Pam. Bummer ... I have been waiting for quite awhile for this class to be offered at a time I can make. Aedan is too advanced for the class. And Finch surely cannot have that pressure applied to her foot (outside toe of the right front foot)

She does hop onto the bed and is eating & drinking (on pain killers + antibiotics) but is very resistant to having the area cleaned after being outside (barely touching with a wet paper towel so it hurts!)

The other dogs had heeling, signals, dogwalk, weaves and ladder work this morning.

I go for my observation (mandatory for acceptance) of the core conditioning class this coming Monday. This will be for Aedan.

My little Eevee girl was amazing in CGC class last night as usual. She is already doing offleah sit-stays and recalls. I’m still luring heeling a bit but slowly moving my hand up my leg. She is a very happy worker. I’m excited for her future! Poor Rocket doesn’t get to go to class, so I’m going to try and make extra time for him one day this week.

Just watched a 3+ hour webinar with Amy Cook --- amazing!

That may be it for my 'training' the dogs for the day though LOL A bit more time than I planned -- they did get their hikes in and now are happily napping so perhaps they won't mind missing their actual sessions.

The past few days they have been doing Ob-ility style sessions

Well I set up Go Outs -- just Go Outs with a plan for 10 treats & done I started with a KLIMB but quickly abandoned it ... it was confusing Aedan and then Towhee kept heading to the KLIMB rather that the Go Out spot (highly re-inforced behavior)

Faelan, Aedan & Towhee all did well.

Finch had 10 turns and sits at the go-out spot, followed by 10 short progressing to not so short marks & sends (perhaps 10-12 feet away is where we ended up) -- she did well, especially considering one of my brothers is a city environmental engineer and had an toxic waste event today in my town, so in his heavy duty city maintenance truck he came visiting.

Then Brady came out and did a very credible job -- seriously. He doesn't much like engineer brother (he doesn't know him really but prefers to head to a safe place when he is around) and stuck to his task with engineer brother and tool maker brother (who he does like) unloading and putting away kayaks while opening gates and driving through the back yard

Yesterday was Eevee’s and my first conformation class. It was a rollercoaster of a class. Holy moly. Lol I learned a TON about handling: how to hold the leash in different situations, how to properly show teeth, that there are different speeds for different views of gait, etc.

She was a wild hellion at first, but eventually started to settle. Judge’s exams and stacking didn’t go that great, but I thought she did very well gaiting. Hoping to go to class next week too!

Overall it went pretty well for our first time and the important thing was that we both learned and had fun. There were lots of different kinds of dogs there, which was cool: Rhodesian Ridgeback, Bluetick Coonhound, GSP, Great Dane, Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, Mastiff, etc. It was good for Eevee to be around dogs of different shapes and sizes. Of course she wanted to be everyone’s best friend. Lol

Of course Miss Eevee was a total angel in CGC class on Tuesday night. She totally ROCKED her sit-, down-, and stand-stays. << Of which you only need to do one for the CGC test. Her recall was enthusiastic and her front was actually pretty straight for a 5-month old puppy! I am very, very pleased with this puppy and her willingness to learn. We had a little trouble at the beginning of the heeling course because she wanted to gait instead of heel. LOL We have been working hard on conformation stuff, and she is struggling a bit with the crossover, but as long as I am consistent about which collar and lead I use for what, I think she'll get it.

On Wednesday, I had a quick mini-session with Eevee for conformation in the house and a heeling session for Rocket. Haven't been able to put in the time with him that I would really like to, but hopefully things will settle down soon outside of my dog life.

Just mailed in few Util A entries, now to set up training plans.....

They have the skills, just need to set up proofing & generalization ideas.

Towhee & Brady.

There is an FDSA get together coming up about 2.5 hours away. I need to decide if that would be worthwhile. They are just making plans but I am unsure at this point if it will take the format of a training party or just people.....

Towhee went to Utility class today.

Although I wrote the entry check at work, she must have known I sent it in. Let's just say we had a few repeats and a lot of games to keep her attitude up while she was redoing this & that ....

I watched a Petra Ford webinar last night that left me with tons to consider.

We had our second conformation class on Sunday afternoon and it went MUCH better than the first one. She even held a stack for over a minute (long time for a puppy) and of course started wiggling as soon as the "judge" turned around to look at her. We learned about stacking and then reaching without moving feet so that her weight shifts forward a bit and you can see her front assembly better. In one week I had to go from walking during gaiting to running, and apparently I was way overthinking the running and ended up looking like a total goober, so my homework for the week is to work on my dog show running. Judge/teacher said that Eevee looked great on the move this week, which made me very happy. And she seems to LOVE gaiting.

It's test night for CGC class and both dogs get to go and be tested tonight, so hopefully there will be two more CGCs in the world tomorrow! Stay tuned...

Well they both passed! They were wiggly when greeting a friendly stranger of course, but other than that they did pretty well! I've actually never gotten better heeling out of Rocket than I did on the loose leash walking test! LOL so, the world DOES have two more CGCs. That's two titles for Eevee at less than 6 months old. Very proud of them both!
