May 2019 may be an active month for my crew.

So far

Aedan may be stepping back into the Open ring (undecided since he is experiencing some confusion)

Brady may be stepping into the Utility ring

Finch may be stepping into the Novice ring..she has 2 Qs with Barb handling. The thought is she might heel better for me but her downs are less guaranteed w in th me handling.

I need to decide if I think Towhee might be ready for Utility again. There are some shows in June.

Last night was both entertaining and eye opening!

I worked each dog outside directly after coming home from work and before they ate.

Probably at their very highest arousal states plus in the wet grass LOL

It was a fun set of sessions but I do hope they are never that aroused when showing They were fully animated but shall we leave it at less than precise? Well, Faelan was great but he is my most seasoned dog and probably secretly hopes he gets back into the obedience rings ....

I may have found a couple of classes for Aedan & Finch to start agility .. I am awaiting feedback on whether they are a good fit, and people are hard to contact at that center.

Aedan & I did not head to the trials -- yesterday was raw wet (trial is outside). Today is gorgeous but I decided to head to drop ins which are close by so I can keep an eye on Brady (unable to hold down food or water.

Towhee took Brady's place in the 10am class ... she did very well in Utility.

Finch went to Novice at noon and the instructor & I agreed she is simply not yet ready for off lead heeling in a trial atmosphere, so I let Barb know that next Sat is a no-go for me ... Brady is also entered but since he missed today's drop in/run thrus I think we'll just bag the 2.5 commute each way ... both of their classes start at 8am, and Brady's 2nd Utility class would not start until at least 5pm -- probably later.

Brady took some water when I got home but was unable to hold it down -- perhaps too much when added to the water he had between Towhee & Finch's classes. So I'll be watching him and deciding if an eVet visit is in his near future.

Oh well, better to decide now that head up and let Finchie flail around during her run and have Brady head in possibly unprepared or even worse not feeling well.

This morning Brady was admitted to the Vet hospital for a suspected obstruction.

The good news is the X Rays showed normal condition of most internal organs like spleen, heart etc. Even the snippets of elbow caught in the XRays showed no signs of arthritis.

They are trying medical treatment first (hydration, anti nausea meds etc) and the X Rays will be sent out for official diagnosis. The obstruction appears to be in the duodenum, but they need to push fluids before further treatment is attempted; and once he is fully hydrated he may be able to pass it on his own or at least be in better condition for surgery.

Brady & Finch are both scratched from the Albany Obedience trials on Sat.

Brady had obstruction surgery last night and is still in ICU although he is eating the ground beef & rice I am bringing over -- he is refusing everything else.

Finch is scratched because her off lead heeling needs work and since she is losing focus in a class environment I am not stepping into the ring possibly setting this talented girl up for failure ; she'll get there but she really has had very little training overall.

Sharon, I'm so glad Brady is OK! And I apologize for not posting anything in response earlier! Every time I saw an update here and there on Brady - I was on my cell phone somewhere and unable to respond on the spot - with me planning to type a note when I got home and could get on my computer- and completely forgetting in the rush of everything going on over here (my parents have both been having health problems).

Some of the earliest notes on what was going on - I was so freaked out and nervous for you. I hope everything is well with him - I saw he came home a couple days ago but nothing noted since then....

All my best thoughts and prayers.

This morning he ate a double breakfast Yesterday was a struggle.

He now has the entire dining room to himself -- gated off to keep him separate from the other dogs but he seems happy enough (once he has his meds). He was actually yipping this morning as I was making the green smoothie mix, so he got some of that and his beef & rice; the 4:30a feeding was refused until I offered him Pro Plan -- go figure, right?

3 days post surgery, so 2 more days of critical and then 10 more days of no activity or interaction with the other dogs -- his staples come out the day following Memorial Day.

So overall, he is doing as well as can be expected Thanks for asking

I have been editting my posts rather than creating new posts for updates .. figured that way anyone following would get the updates....

And now the real convalescence begins LOL

His incision looks good, he has been eating very well and he has started to let his feelings about being separate from the other dogs and me be known.

His tail is wagging and his expression is eager as I round the corner into the kitchen -- the dining room is currently gated off as 'his' area and is next to the kitchen.

Training all of the dogs has taken a backseat as I do not want him getting upset.
