Heeling and fig8 this morning a good but NOT perfect exercise with Hombre starting off not paying attention but a good correction got his mind back to where it belonged --- on me. MSFE very well done as we're signals. We practiced fronts from the side and we have a ways to go with this. Go outs some baited some not the baited ones he went all the way to the stanchion the unbaited he cut them about 5-6 feet short of stanchion they were all fast and straight but those short ones need to be lengthened out.

A day early but here goes

I posted a new thread about our morning Ring Confidence work.

This afternoon I had rally class with Aedan (concentration on the stand exercises!! What I am accelerating his training on LOL) and I got to practice some squishes there with a friend videotaping.

Then Towhee had Utility class and while I would love to say she aced it, in truth I would be lying!! But we practiced some leash hand offs, found out if we wait long enough she does signals all by herself, her Go Out to a wall with verticals off center left a whole lot to be desired (she went to the verticals - not something I worry about really since we either have stanchions or we have posts here -- both on center), her scent articles were great, her MSFE was great and glove #3 required a few resets. But she is getting much better at focusing with other activity and even did her articles with a snafu occurring with the groups (someone running into her dog causing other dogs to break causing much ado) without so much as a glance over there!

I have to clean for a few guests coming over tonight but hope to get some training in with Faelan & Brady time permitting.

And I just read this on one of the FDSA lists -- something to keep in mind

Always, always advocate for your dog !! Take the point hit if/when your dog needs you!! Ask to be excused if your dog can't handle the ring on that day! etc etc There are times when your dog must come ahead of the rules, as long as you do not interfere with another team. I know most of us know this but I am posting this here for anyone new to the competition world

Advocating for your dog at trials ? K9 Rivalry

Gave Penny a week off from training, plus she got into some butter so class was skipped too.

One session yesterday I played around with the idea of proper slingshot start that lets me get more lateral distance rather than the drop-n-go style I use now. After that I worked on her "go" verbal to send her ahead of me, paired it with a signal and sent her to a target with food.

Today I proofed weave distractions. First I tried with a human ten feet away from the weaves, though she wasn't bothered, so I set up chicken pieces on upturned frisbees, which distracted her a lot more. I could move the discs pretty close to the weaves after a couple repetitions and she ignored them.

Changed my ring around 90 degrees to give Hombre a new look. It didnít make any difference to him. 3 go outs all well done plus he did take the correct direction and took the correct jump each time. Fronts were good.

Worked simple recalls, then recalls with calling past low value food on the ground, giving leave its when needed. Also distractions with a person washing a car in my driveway, plus the neighbor tinkering in their yard next door. She did good with all the distractions.

Aaaack!!!! Today I switched things around and about broke my dogs!!!!!!!!!

Not one of them, not one!! managed Go Outs and Directed Jumping. Guess I know what I need to work on

The set up was - the Go Out line was along the driveway/grass line with several sections gravel/grass islands. The Jumps were offset so the dogs were jumping on grass - perhaps 40 feet apart.

Long long sessions -- oh yeah plus they were pulling up short at one of the grass 'islands' and letting their noses go down.

Might be setting that one up frequently since it appears to be a perfect trifecta of doogie oopsies.

I had a stern discussion with myself and told myself time to exit my comfort zone and get my dogs out & about more Well actually I was not so polite and my arse was mentioned!

So tonight, Towhee and Aedan headed to the Waterbury Petco with me. It is dark and it is downtown!! I am a rural type of a girl LOL

Anyway

Towhee: Signals (several resets), heeling (nice), MSFE (really nice), baited marks and of course acclimation & meet & greets before we started.

Aedan: Acclimation and several people loving on him, then heeling (really nice), recalls (mostly nice - he followed me in on one wait), stands, downs, squish and leash off (he is the best dog I have ever had with attention while the leash comes off -- seriously awesome)
