Today would have been my lovely girls 16th birthday.
We were so lucky to have her in our lives for so long, she lived until she was fourteen and a half...but you know...sometimes even a lot is never enough and you can never have enough of a good thing. And wow was she a great dog.
She saw me through some of the worst times in my life. I saw her through all the worst times in hers.
She provided love and laughter and comfort to my children in a way that no toy, no gadget and no tv programme could. She gave them the enjoyment of outdoor life with runs in the woods, picnics in the countryside and fun on the beach.
She buried herself with xmas wrapping paper as we opened presents, she ate the cats dinner when we werent looking.
She crept upstairs when we went out but came down before we got home and pretended the ball had got up there all by itself.
Now we have Chester and hes a bolt of energy and fun and she would have loved him I'm sure. I wouldnt change him for the world...but I would give all the tea in China to have my Cracker back too.
Happy Birthday Sweetheart. Sweet sixteen. I miss you. x

What a wonderful tribute to your Cracker girl. I am sure she is watching and smiling over you remembering. Hug Chester twice, once for him and once for your Cracker, she will know and understand.

It never gets easier does it?

Thankyou everyone. We certainly do miss them even though we know they are happy and healed again, who wouldnt miss their best friend?
Last night as Chester lay on the kitchen floor I bent down and lifted his head up to mine and told him it was Crackers birthday and I wanted to give him two hugs, one for him and one for her birthday and they were special. I told him I loved him and that we should wish her Happy Birthday and that she would understand...and something wonderful happened. My boy is a busy boy, he would usually be up and about at this point thinking heres a chance to play or maybe its walk time and he would be leaping around or trying to find me his antler, his ball or both. But he lay there, very calm, completely relaxed and as I held his head and told him she would understand he turned his face to me and started to lick my face so kindly and gently over and over again, in the way that we call ' kisses' but its usually something we ask for, as a game. I cried. It was just beautiful...and very knowing.
Something I will always always remember. Thank you Chester and Cracker x

Oh blimey Elly, you now have my eyes watering and a big lump in the throat - if they lived for 50 years it would still never ever be enough for us, but know exactly what you mean about giving all the tea in China for another hug.

Happy Birthday Cracker, I'm sure there has been lots of wrapping paper for you to hide under at the bridge, and your friends will be with you.
