Yeah I would also think for a male golden that is certainly on the larger side as well. For a dog that should be 65-75 pounds by 12-15 months, I would expect a 5 month old maybe to be 35ish pounds to maybe 40
53 pounds is a little heavy for 5 months. Rocky was 45 pounds at 5 months and at 2 years of age weighs 73 pounds. However, our Max, who is a very big Golden, was 75 pounds at 5 months and as an adult is over 100 pounds. Max is quite tall and long.
My pup was 55lbs at 7months, and is now a little over 65lbs at 8 months. He’s right at 24” tall. Have you measured your pups height? You definitely have a big pup!
Oh, now I know why you asked about weight on the other thread.
I posted there - but here it is here -
Glee weighs 50.6 pounds.
As soon as I figure out where his tape measure went - I'll probably check that too. But am betting on him being about 18" or so, give or take. He's got a nice lean build like his dad did. Pretty happy with what I see.
Hoping he gets to be in his first show in about a couple months - which case, he needs to be full height or close enough for a judge not to think about it. First judge I'll be showing him to is either wonderful or awful depending on his mood when he got up that morning.
* His dad was 49 pounds at around the same age. And his full brother was about 50 pounds at the same age.
So based on my dogs - I'd venture to say he's about average for the age.
Bertie is a little heavier since he's a 7 year old - at 76 pounds. But when he was younger he very typically ranged between 68 pounds and 72 pounds.
Jovi is built like a bigger dog, so I'm watching to see where he ends up as an adult dog (after age 2), but right now he's 73 pounds at just under 18 months.
I read the posts above and have to say that for a regular sized golden male, they do most of their growing between 12 weeks and about 20 weeks. That's where you see the greatest gains in weight and size.
By the time they are 5 months old - the growth rates are already starting to slow down. Instead of gaining 1-5 pounds a week, you are looking at 1-5 pounds a month instead. Their heads are starting to fill out and they are starting to get muscle and so on.
There ARE lighter goldens out there. Some of them kinda confuse me. LOL. I know somebody whose golden looks huge and he weighs less than Glee does. And I have no idea how unless it's all coat!
