Hi everyone! I put down a deposit on a puppy and he will be coming home in 7 weeks. I'm trying to find a high quality food to feed him. I don't want grain free, but would like it to not have corn, wheat, soy, or peas. Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks!

Congratulations on your new puppy.

What is the breeder currently feeding the litter? It is recommended when you bring your new pup home to continue feeding the same food the breeder was feeding for a few months.

Your pup will be going through a big transition period-leaving his littermates, coming to your home, getting adjusted to you, your family, your environment and schedule. This is a lot for the pup and you as well.

With that being said, a lot of members recommend Purina Pro Plan Large Breed Puppy formula or Eukanuba Puppy Formula. When you do make the change, do it gradually to avoid stomach upset, decrease a % of the current food and add a very small % of the new food and slowly transition over 7-10 days.

I'm sure members who are feeding a certain Brand/formula of puppy food will post why they have chosen to do so and how their pup is doing on it.

The breeder said that she feeds Pro Plan which is what I initially was planning on feeding. When I looked at the ingredients though, I saw that it listed corn and wheat which I was hoping to avoid. I'm now looking at Nature's logic. Thoughts on that?

Rukie did really well on Purina Pro Plan Large Breed Puppy. He had a healthy looking coat and no digestive problems or trips to the vet for anything but shots. I also did a few bags of Eukanuba Large Breed Puppy but the Pro Plan seemed a little more digestible (less poops).

I'm not familiar with Nature's Logic either.

I have been feeding my adult Goldens Purina Pro Plan for Sensitive Skin and Stomach for the last 8.5 years. I feed the Salmon formula, it does not contain wheat, corn, or soy.
Two of my Goldens had sensitive stomachs, it worked great for their stomachs and because it is also formulated for Skin, they have had great coats, no skin problems including No hot spots. It has a lot of Omega 3s in it.
