Golden pupper is being picky

Hi guys! Hoping to get some input here. My 3 1/2 month old Woofles is a very happy and playful boy. When I first got him, he was tested positive for giardia (which had been treated since), he’s all clear now and all clear on everything else. Our vet put him on Hills digestive dry and wet food combo to settle His stomach because I saw he was being picky about his food and he was having diarrhea most likely due to new environment and giardia. Now that he’s all better, he’s still on the hills digestive diet (he eats all of it).

I’m working on transitioning him to something else (wet and dry food combo still, because he seems to be not interested in just dry food). I tried to mix in some of his wet food with new yesterday and today but he would smell and not want to eat it, it took some coaxing for him to finish about 70% of what I made. He eats 3 cups a day 3 times a day.

Sooo my question is, should I continue to feed him the new food in hopes he’ll take a liking to it? I’m running out of his old food and it’s stressing me out, ahhh! Is this something puppies grow out of? Picture for attention lol

Put his food down to feed him, give him 10-15 minutes to eat it. Whatever he doesn't eat pick up and don't feed him again until his next meal. He won't starve himself and will eventually learn that when its meal time he needs to eat his food or it will be gone. We wen't through this with Denver. We also fed him in the crate with the door shut and he learned that when it was meal time he needed to eat...then was let out when he was done.

Your puppy isn't finishing his food because you're over feeding him. If I understood you correctly, 3 cups of food at each meal? And you feed him 3 meals a day? Overfeeding can upset a digestive tract in addition to really making them grow at a quick rate (which isn't good for joints).

Woofles. <img src="http://www.goldenretrieverforum.com/images/smilies/smile.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Smile" class="inlineimg" /> Do you call him Woof for short?

I think you're saying that you feed him 3 cups total per day - 1 cup per meal? Correct? What food are you trying to switch him to?
Yes 3 total per day lol. Would be a lot if I fed him 9 cups haha.

I’m getting an order of the Hills large breed puppy food for him today and wanted to switch him to that, along with wet puppy food, I’m reading that a lot of people prefer Purina pro plan so considering that a couple months after. I just want his poops to be more solid and better in color!
