Need Some Advice Puppy Scratching ears

Hello all, I have a 5 1/2 month old GR pup that has been battling with an itchy ear and an ear infection (that was treated) for the last 2 1/2 months. Teddy came home to us from the breeder eating Costco brand Kirkland Signature puppy food. I am not a Costco member and since all my dogs have done well on Blue Buffalo I weaned him into BB off the Kirkland. He eats like it’s his last meal and his poops are good. Seems like not long after I switched him to BB I noticed him itching here and there so after keeping an eye on him I noticed he had some dryness in his left ear and took him to the vet. Vet put him on antibiotics and his left ear got better. I decided that maybe the BB was the culprit so based on the advice of this forum once the BB bag got low I weaned him on to Pro Plan Focus large breed. He still itches that ear off and on. All the foods he’s eaten in his young life have been a chicken protein and none of the foods have been grain free. I’m just not sure what to do, do I try a grain free food or do I try a different protein. I’m just not sure which way to go here. I think he’s too young for seasonable allergies and really suspect the food is the culprit. What’s weird is he only itches his left ear not both.

He is not too young for seasonal allergies and the fact that he seems to itch one ear more than the other makes it highly likely it's seasonal allergies. 1) Did you go to the follow up visit with the vet to verify that the ear is 100% clear? 2) Have you started doing regular ear cleaning wash? An ear wash like Ketomax done for maintenance is a good idea.

Uuuugh... I don’t know. The ear was checked and healed up nicely. Inside of the ear is nice and pink again. It is so weird that his right ear doesn’t give him any issues, just the left. I dont know. We have been using an ear cleaning solution every 10 days or so. It’s just weird how at night or early in the morning he’s scratching that left ear, never during the day.

That does sound odd. Does he usually sleep on his left side at night?
