What kind of food do you feed your golden with joint issues and/or hip dysplasia? My golden is 3 and suffering from a bad hip. She is allergic to alot of things and doesn't tolerate food well. She also hates eating. It is a struggle everyday to get her to eat. I feel like we have tried 100 different kinds before we finally found one that she won't turn her nose up too which is zignature. We rotate between zssentials, lamb, and turkey. The lamb and turkey are high in omega oils which I've read is good for joints. The vets have no idea why she has so many struggles with tolerating food.

I hate to change her food but if there is a food out there that will help her joint pain I'd like to try it! I just got some glycoflex to give her as well. Because she doesn't tolerate things well, I'm waiting til the weekend to try those so I can be home with her. She can't have chicken, pork, mackerel, flounder, potatoes or any grains so I feel like our options are limited! Any suggestions are appreciated!!

Science diet healthy mobility is basically the same thing as the Hills prescription J/D, it's just a hair behind it. Other than that, most foods usually don't even have a theraputic level of glucosamine and chondroitin. That food isn't just about joint supplements, but they use something called nutrogenonomics. To keep it from getting too technical, it's about turning some genes on and others off. They took dogs with chronic health issues and saw certain genes on and other off and in healthy dogs without those issues they saw their genes that ok/off, reversed. The food goes about getting the right genes turned on and the others off.

So if not trying something like the science diet healthy mobility, I would give supplementation, what is in food isn't anywhere near the amount they need. At that point just do a strong joint care like Nupro joint supplement or Overbee's joint supplement with Tart Cherrys are very good place to start for supplements and just feed a high quality food. Also, if they have some extra weight on them, getting them about 5 pounds under their ideal weight will be huge in helping them get some and feel a bit better.
