On Saturday I taught Waterfowl ID for the Youth Waterfowl Program. After that I demonstrated retrieving for the crowd: Steadiness, single marks, retrieve through decoys (a line snagged Buffy's leg but she kept going), double marked retrieve, and then a blind retrieve in knee high cover. People do not know that we even do this stuff. I needed to say that everything that they saw was trained.
On Sunday Buffy worked a tower shoot again at Peconic River Sportsmans' Club. Yes, I loved it when I sent Buffy for a 175 yard retrieve...the bird was wounded and landed-glided behind us. The handler next to me would not send his dog, it really was his bird, so I sent Buffy and watched this guy's mouth drop open. And that bird thought he would get away when Buffy got there.
I think we have three more shoots this month and a wood duck hunt planned. Also at least one pheasant hunt.
