Strange eye movements

Hello—

I have a 1-yr old male Golden named Bantam. Both of his eyes "flutter" or "roll back" regularly throughout the day. I'm wondering if any of you have ever seen this. I am in contact with my vet about this issue, and she is going to contact a neurologist as she has never seen this type of activity.

I posted a video of this movement in his left eye—He has a cone in the pic due to hot spots on his neck—poor guy! Thanks for any help you can provide!:

Hmmm. Yeah, I would be asking about this as well. Personally, I don't have any experience with this, so the only suggestion I can offer is to have your vet check him out. I'm confident others on this site will be able to offer helpful input. Just be patient! Other replies will be coming.

Aww, poor boy. I have never seen this either. I hope you get some answers from the neurologist.

Hopefully the neurologist will help you. Please have a check on ears or sinuses as well through. With inner ear infection / bacteria or fungal they tend to do sometimes strange eye movement as a sign of inner ear vestibular.
Very curious about the outcome. Kindly update us and hope it will be quick thing to get resolved

I aswell wonder if those strange eye movement started after the cone. As you know the dogs have 240 degree of field vision much larger compare to human. Maybe he really gets disturbed by having his vision field get decreased and as a relief he started to make those strange eye movement which is becoming a tic disorder.

Neurologist is a good start, but you might also go see a canine eye doctor. Can you tell if its actually his eye moving, or is it the third eyelid slipping up and down?

I have certainly seen dogs raise an eyebrow like this but never the eye movement. I'll be seeing a friend Sat AM who's a vet ophthalmologist- will ask him if he has an opinion....

Hi Peri29 - No, these eye movements have been happening for quite a while—long before the cone.

Hi mylissyK - It's hard to tell, but it does seem like it's his eyes that are moving, as well as the 3rd eyelids.

Wow - never seen anything like that. I would also consult a veterinary ophthamologist. Call your nearest vet school if there isn't a specialist clinic near you.
