Eating poo

Zac is fifteen and has faecal incontinence that has progressed over the past two years. 90% of his poo is done on his bed as that's where he spends most of his time nowadays. It usually takes him a while to realise he's done it and I'm on hand to whisk it away as soon as my nose tells me what's happened. If Zac notices before me he gets up and walks away to one of his other beds which have been strategically placed to give him a choice. If it happens during the night when I'm not close by to clear up he walks away for a little while but then returns and eats his poo, almost to hide the evidence. Does anyone else have experience of this and why is he doing it?

I'm sorry your pup is having such difficulty. It is such a blessing having your pup reach 15 but must be heartbreaking watching him deteriorate like this. Have you talked to your vet about this??

Thanks for your replies. I've since learned that it's probably a house-keeping issue as he wants to clear his nest and this is his chosen method. I just have to try to get to it before he does.
