Looking for a new family member near MA/RI/CT

Hi all,

Looking to add to the family around end of October/November. Building a new house, and absolutely miss having a golden running around.

I live on the MA/RI border, but willing to travel into CT/NH .. Looking for a male boxy head style, with the beautiful golden color. Would not be breeding this dog.

Any info would be wonderful - thank you all!!

You have an incredibly tight timeframe. Most responsible preservation breeders have lists of people waiting before they ever breed. Your time frame means you are looking for a breeders with 2 week old puppies or a confirmed pregnancy due soon. It would be uncommon but not impossible to find that scenario where there is still a puppy or waitlist spot available but you need to get moving on this fast. You might also have to expand your search area if timing is important.

Also, be aware that you will need to do research on responsible breeding if health is important to you and you have not already. The bulk of the puppies available in your time time range are likely health risky puppies from less than reputable breeders. The problem is those less than reputable breeders often pose as good breeders up to the point that they may lie about health certifications on parents. Buyers have to beware and be educated on health certifications if getting a puppy with the best chance for a long healthy life is important to them. I will include a few images that might help. Always get potential puppy parent names and run them on www.ofa.org to verify health certification claims.

Hi!! Thank you very much for your information!! I am absolutely on the look out for breeders with that information. If they do not have a health guarantee, then I'm unlikely to consider them.

I am of course willing to wait until December/January to pick up a new pup - my excitement sometimes just gets the best of me.

But yes, time frame is not my friend at this moment.

Thanks!

Hello and welcome to the forum. LJack gave you a lot of good advice. I live in Mass. We got two beautiful male pups, Seamus and Lincoln, from Nautilus Golden Retrievers in Plymouth, MA. We got one of our sweet girls from Beau Geste in Acton. Our current boy, Bear who’s 14 mos old, we got in NH through Karben Goldens. Good luck in your search.

Lincoln at 5 years old.
Lincoln, at 10, with Bear, 14 mos.

I'm also in MA! Great tips and breeder recommendations above - Beau Geste was very helpful for us with info on upcoming litters they knew of, as was the breeder at Tangleloft. They ultimately helped us settle on our breeder at Cloverdale in CT. Our 16 week boy is pictured below and shows promise for a nice wide head. MA has many good local breeders, and Yankee Golden Retriever Club (YGRC) can help recommend breeders with upcoming litters.

I love that you see your future boy as a member of your family. As a friendly reminder, most reputable breeders have active waiting lists, and a puppy that would go home in your specified time range would have been born by now. Finding a breeder who will help make sure you get a healthy dog that suits your family's lifestyle is worth a potential wait!

Thank you so much for that info! I will definitely look into YGRC.

Definitely understanding the time, I unfortunately was on a list with someone, and the dog ended up having only 4 puppies. 3 females and 1 male. Their previous litters were all 8+ pups. That killed a lot of our time there But yes ! Definitely worth the wait, and I will if I need to.

Mardovar is in Rhode Island. She's active with her dogs and they're beautiful.

I understanding missing a Golden running around the house. Try getting on a wait list. I have seen where families do not follow through for one reason or another. Make friends with the local clubs and rescue orgs.

I second Mardovar. Dodi has very nice dogs. I have a very promising 16 month old that was sired by her dog Flyer. If Dodi doesn't have any upcoming litters she can probably direct you to litters sired by one of her boys.

Thank you all so very much!!

We branched out our search a little bit, and have found a breeder, Declercks Goldens in Albion, New York. They have a litter due Halloween and would allow us to pick up around Christmas - which is excellent timing.. We're also first on the list, talk about luck!
