Question Looking for a puppy. Getting no response from breeders. What do we do?

Hello everyone,

I am new to this forum but have been reading up for quite some time.

Our beloved Golden Retriever - Rusty passed away a couple of years back, cancer :-( He was Lycinian's Big Bang's son crossed with Cloverdale's doggie in CT. He was one of the most handsome goldens we have seen. We loved him like our own children and he always lived indoors, right besides us. It has taken us some time to handle our grief of losing him and now we are looking for another puppy. We are in Herndon, Virginia and are willing to travel up to 6-8 hours to get a puppy. We have been trying to find a puppy from a good breeder for a couple of months now. Looking specifically for a healthy and good looking male pup from a very reputable breeder, maybe someone who breeds show quality dogs.

Unfortunately, we have found it almost impossible to get a response from breeders out there. We looked at many breeders' websites in the DC and neighboring areas, sent e-mails, filled out their forms, but we do not get any response back. I do understand that the breeders are busy, but is it too difficult to setup an auto-responder saying "no puppies at this time" or maybe post on your website, "no puppies available and/or no inquires please"? We are willing to wait for upcoming litters also, but again, no one tells us if they have any litters planned, because....again....no response!

We have also tried the puppy referral service of PVGRC (did get a long auto response saying basically, no pups)

Is there something I am missing here?
I am wondering what is the correct way to find a good breeder.

-Raj

Breeders are inundated, its a fact, too many people and limited puppies - facebook can sometimes be a contact point. Try https://grapevinegoldens.com/ also look on facebook .

thanks for the reply. You may be correct, too many people like me out there looking for pups :-(

BTW, thanks for suggestion but this breeder is just too far away from us. We are in Washington, DC's suburbs.

You could try Gambit.

Gambit Goldens - Golden Retrievers

May be able to help you. I've heard good things about him on this board and a facebook page but I have no personal experience. As always: call, research, reach out, etc.

Good luck!

Raj, dude, try Marianne Miller at Captivate Goldens. She's in Maryland, about two hours from you. Tell her Dana Douglas referred you.

Sorry your contact from PVGRC didn't have any leads. I'm in Maryland and went w/ a breeder in NC; might want to check out Tarheel Golden Retriever Club who provides a list of breeders--great club, you will still need to verify clearances. Would also second Marianne at Captivate and Renee at Maywood goldens. There are also breeder referral for the Pittsburgh club (4.5 hrs North of DC) as well as check out NJ. You're in an area w/ a lot of active, responsible breeders in all venues so hopefully you're able to make some connections.

I second Marianne Miller! My puppy is the daughter of a dog Marianne bred and I LOVE this puppy. She is fantastic!

Hello, Took a little break.....I am back to looking actively.
I went through the list of breeders linked on Chesapeake Golden Retriever Club: https://www.chesapeakegrc.org/links.html
I checked their websites and also their facebook pages, if they exist (some do not have one).....does not look like anyone has litters or any plans.

Baybreez says yes on their site but no on their facebook page :-(
Delmarva Goldens, does not look like they exist on Facebook.

Goldridge Goldens also do not have a Facebook page
Same for Laurelridge Goldens, no FB page.

Sogni D'oro Goldens do have a FB page but do not have any puppy. Looks like they know someone in MI who had a litter on July 20. Maybe too far away :-(
