Breeders witin 150 miles of Central Delaware

Looking for breeder recommendations. A breeder (Icewind) was on my list, but readers' comments on this forum had a negative slant on this breeder. I am looking at breeders posted on the AKC Marketplace site. Any comments on this site?
Just want a healthy Golden from a reputable breeder in a price range from $1500 to $2000 as a companion pet.
Thank you

Hi, I'm in central Delaware as well. Here's a few ideas. I have not personally gotten a dog from these breeders, but I have checked them out for other friends. I tend to buy high energy field Golden's, so my requirements are normally a little different.

Lycinan Goldens, Hartford County MD (this would be my personal 1st pick for "local")
Celebrate Goldens, Salisbury MD
Baybreez Golden Retrievers
Delmarva Goldens
El Dorado Goldens

Most of these are MD/VA.

You want to make sure you have the four core clearances; elbow, hips, heart, eyes. Heart by a cardiologist and eyes have to be done every year.

If you find a litter get the registered names of the parents and post them on here for some of the experts to check out. Others may also have some good suggestions to add to the list. Enjoy the search and be patient. You will have your puppy for a very long time and the most important thing is it's health.

PS - I'm not a huge fan of the AKC Marketplace. The breeders can check the little button that the clearances are all done, but nobody verify's the information to be accurate. I'm sure there are good breeders on there, but I don't trust it.

Please read DblTrbl's post script one more time.... the AKC marketplace is (sadly) not where I would even spend a minute looking for a good breeder. (There may be some on there, but as mentioned, AKC means almost nothing because no one is verifying anything on there.)

You can use the search feature on the top of this page to bring up all previous threads on any topic, try looking for 'reputable breeder Mid Atlantic" or Maryland etc. the breeders listed above will most likely have waiting lists in place but they would also be great people to refer you to a breeder they think highly of in their region. If you would expand your search area, you would open up more options and potentially give you a shorter wait time. A puppy from a good breeder is well worth the travel time.

Best of luck with your search.

I'm in North Delaware. I like Celebrate goldens in Salisbury, MD. I've never purchased a puppy from her, but I did get the chance to ask her a bunch of questions at one of the Bear, DE shows last year! Very nice woman and her dogs are beautiful.

AKC breeder means nothing. I had a very bad experience with a breeder listed on the AKC site. All you have to do is pay to be on there and agree to provide registration.
