Hi, I’m looking for a golden retriever for my family with two kids. I found a breeder near Los Angeles where we live. We went to see their dogs and we like them. But the breeder only provide hip certificate. Their puppies are little cheaper than other reputable breeder. How do you think? Should I give up and go for another reputable breeder? Any suggestions of other breeder near me? Thanks!

I agree 100% with @DanaRuns, elbows are a major problem. You definitely need those clearances.

I looked up Lucky Charm Golden Retrievers. Could you post the registered names of the parents?

I see one dog on the website that appears to have some clearances, but I just saw an add on AKC Marketplace with a female with no clearances. I'm wondering if it's the same litter?

Use the list that Carolina Mom linked above. It should be a great place to start. It's not as easy as people think to find a good puppy, but it's always worth the wait. You should at least get hip, elbow, heart, and eye clearances. The places you've listed are charging top rate so you should expect nothing less.

Spending the time now will potentially save you a lot of time, money, and heartache later on.

Best of luck and if you find litters the best thing you can do is post the registered name of both parents. There are people here that can help.

FWIW_ you can always look @ when the clearances were input to k9data... that does not tell you when they were done necessarily but tells you when they decided to post them.In this dog's case, he was just 5 mo old or so.

Huawen, you can easily search for clearances on k9data.org. Just search for the dog's registered name and it will show you if there are any clearances reported on ofa.org

Cielo Goldens does not have clearances on their dogs.
Takis is the only one I found in k9data.org, and she does not have hip or elbow clearances. Her cardiac exam was done by a practitioner, not a cardiologist, so it's not valid, and eye exam is 3 years past due.

They also market their dogs as "English Cream", which is a always a red flag. Reputable breeders will not use that term. It is a marketing ploy just so they can charge too much for puppies that don't have clearances behind them. If you see that term just move on.

well, to me, first untruth I doubt every word.
The person on this Pedigree: Cielo's Delicia Dulce pedigree, whose full name was not on the website -none of her dogs' names are on the website, just a lot of 'champion sired' this and that- anyway- she very deliberately checked the box on AKC saying she is a GRCA member. Which she was not as of April 1 2019 . That makes me doubt the obedience and agility piece on her site since none of her dogs are titled in either venue. I wonder where all these kind of breeders come from. The dogs pictured on the site have structural issues, and who puts a photo of a bagged up bitch as the only picture of her on one's site?
I think you have found another hard pass.
Did you contact the breeders on the California list? That's far better than google...

Do be patient and try to start learning the ins and outs of how to track dogs down- but no one expects you to be fluent in this language overnight... and thank you for the heads up on the Ceilo woman. Once someone lies on membership they can be turned in and today her claim is gone on AKC. You were a part of that because I'd never have seen it in a million years, and the watchdog folks (who are in charge of false membership claims) can't find them all.

Just in general. If you are having a hard time finding a breeders dogs on OFA... that generally should be all you need to know. They should be listing the dogs registered names on their website very clearly so you can look up the clearances on OFA without trouble. If this isn't the case you can be fairly certain that they aren't providing that information because they are likely trying to hide the fact that clearances aren't being done.

That said there are some names on the site on each dogs main page. Though looking through about 4 or 5 dogs so far none have had eyes done in 3-5 years.

Thank you. Musicur/five star just says that they are in the process of breeding. I will ask them about the sire and dam after they confirmed. And there is another coming litter from Emerald Acres:

Dam:

Sure:

I’m not sure about this breeder. I checked the posts before I this forum. Someone said there are cautions, but there is always someone pop up to say how good their dog is...,confused...

I have a female Golden from this breeder. She's been a terrific pet and her parents had all 4 health clearances. If you're looking for a breeder that shows their Goldens, this is unlikely to be Emerald Acres. Prism has pointed out the eye clearances are out of date, so you should absolutely ask about this. I wouldn't be surprised if the breeder had simply not mailed them in. But, again, you should investigate what's going on with the eyes.

My Golden is 5 years old and I have not spoken to the breeder in about 3 years, so I can assure you that I have not been asked by anyone to post about my experience. I don't know anyone else with a Golden from this breeder so I also can not tell you if my experience is typical or atypical. But, I would purchase another puppy from this breeder if it, too, had parents who had all 4 health clearances.

Not to mention- they flat out lied about membership on their AKC listing back when they were first mentioned in this thread. It's not a 'mistake'- one has to deliberately mark a listing. If they will lie on that, they cannot be trusted on anything else. If you post the registered names of sire and dam we will look them up for you.

Hi Group; you need to think about buying a puppy carefully. A new puppy should not be an impulsive decision. If you want a Golden most reputable breeders will freely give you information if they recognize that you are serious. Don't look for a puppy based on the color of their coat (it's not the most important trait). Look for dogs who are being bred to have ALL their clearances as recommended by the code of ethics by GRCA. That includes Heart, Eyes, Hips and Elbows. Also I would recommend getting genetic tests for the various forms of PRA (genetic eye issues), Ichthyosis (genetic skin disease) and NCL ( a lethal and crippling neurologic disease). Failing to have these clearances is a crap shoot. You might get a good puppy or you might spend thousands of dollars on health care down the road. Also a breeder who is this conscientious will take the time to socialize and raise their pups so they are good citizens where ever they go (pet or performance homes).
