Hi everyone,

We recently moved to South Florida from NY. We are looking to add a pup to
our family and finding a legitimate breeder who will allow us to fly the puppy via a flight nanny etc has proven to be very difficult. We are just looking for a healthy pup that the parents have all clearances etc. it feels like if we go the route of a puppy store or puppy spot etc., we are getting a puppy mill dog (and paying triple the price!). Unfortunate not a lot of breeders with current of future litters in south Florida. I cannot drive 20+ hours to get a puppy. Any suggestions? I’m trying to do the right thing here but it’s just so hard!

Just curious, is there a reason you can't make the time to pick up your own puppy? Lots of really good breeders in FL. FWIW I drove from TX to FL (14 hrs one way) to get my last puppy and I'm almost 70 and would do it again in a heartbeat.
I would assume from the breeders perspective if you don't have time to pick up your pup or meet the breeder how much time will you have for their puppy?

I could be wrong but believe laws have been put in place (or at least trying to get this law passed) for places like online sold pups, so they can no longer sell pups sight unseen. There is a reason this is not a good idea. Good breeders care about their pups, they want to know who is going to be taking care of their pups, how they are going to be raised and where they live. Even rescues won't ship puppies.

If you feel you are being forced to resort to purchase a pet store pup or online or puppy mill purchase... that's your choice to make and not the fault of the breeders. No one is forcing you to do this, personal decision. If you don't want a puppy mill dog put in the effort.

There are many reputable breeders in a Florida. LOTS! If you are willing to wait till the fall, I can not imagine that you would not be able to get a puppy.

There are lists of breeders in FL. A Central FL list and a South FL list.
There are puppies on the ground that as of last week weren't spoken for, I heard.
If I were you I would email every breeder on both lists, find someone you feel comfortable with and just wait.
The breeder is an important piece of what you take into your life, available right now isn't always going to be the case- the litter I know of in S FL that has at least one puppy last week not spoken for is a rarity- most breeders are booked out at least 6+ months.
The pet store puppy isn't a real choice- especially if you want a well-bred dog- they are not available in pet stores. What you get there are farm raised litters taken from the litter at 4 weeks and shipped all over the country. Socially they are damaged goods. The ones I have seen from Pet Land in Tampa and Pet Land in Orlando are physically pitiful things.
