We're buying the most gorgeous little puppy. She's 6 weeks old and we can pick her up and bring her home in 3 weeks. She's quite unsteady on her back legs and seems wobbly. She's due a vet check before we bring her home. Is it normal to be unsteady at this age? This is our first puppy so I'm a bit paranoid.

Without seeing it its hard to say may just be age sleepy, tired. if she is barely 6 weeks some are a bit less coordinated then others like a toddler that just learned to walk but they quickly start to develop better muscle control the more they play and move about. Also how much space do they have to play in and develop the muscle control if they are fairly confined with no outings into larger spaces it takes longer for the muscles in their little legs to develop. Between 5-8 weeks a whole lot of changes are going on and the more they do the stronger they get. Do the parents have their OFA for hips as well as their other health tests.

A little bit is what I see as normal....not unsteady or wobbly where it looks weak or way off balance. Pups usually do not walk in a strait line at that point but of the 100 pups I have seen a few were weak on the hind legs....which for me is a no go.

Of course I am only going off a written description so without actually observing the pup it makes it difficult to be sure.

Thank you very much for your advice. The breeder has said a few of them are a little unsteady and not to worry. They're all due a vet check before they go to their new homes. She's a happy little pup and running around. We've been shown the health certificates for both mum and dad.

What finally became of this, if you don't mind me asking? We are getting a puppy in 2 weeks. The breeder just emailed and said the dog is having some major hind leg issues, immobility and could be a sign of swimmer's syndrome? But she also said he could just be a couple weeks delayed. I dont know what to do!
