I've had 3 retractables in the past 8 years and this model seems to work best for both my female Goldens.
They last a long time and Flexi is the best brand on the market (by a LARGE margin).
It's very durable, it can be chewed, dropped, dragged on concrete, dragged through mud, dirt, sand, water, snow, etc.
Highly recommended.

Pros:
When used in training (where there's no traffic), it can be useful as a long line
Cons:
Hard to maintain control of the dog while walking
Flexis are dangerous and if used as a walking lead, are detrimental to training. I hate to be so negative, but if you're thinking you want one so that your dog can have more "freedom" on a walk, please be aware that it is difficult to maintain control of the dog, and many dogs have been killed by darting out into traffic after a cat or whatever while the dog is at a distance from the owner. Many dogs, when walked on a flexi, never grasp the concept of "heeling" and because they tend to walk out in front of the owner, they have a tendency to pull when put on a regular lead
The only reason I didn't choose 1 is because as an alternative to a training long line, they are useful in that the dog isn't getting tangled in the line as it retracts instead. But for general walking, they are not my recommendation.
