I keep calling him 'Fluke' which isn't fair, mind you 'Fluke, is usually followed by every other name in our family ! It surely must be 'an age thing'. You're right people, he has lifted my spirits.
Well I spoke to soon about the stairs, it didn't take him long to discover he could manoeuvre them. I have put a gate across them for the moment as they are very twisty and I didn't want him stumbling or slipping and hurting his young bones.
'Bob Dylan' you're right he certainly does keep you on your toes. I fell asleep on the sofa a couple of days ago, and woke up to a pile of imitation coal dust, he had taken it upon himself to empty the fireplace of coals and play ball and chew them, I was horrified in case they made him ill - though up to now there as been no detrimental affect, thank goodness. He's been out on the field behind my home with my son and little grand kids, they let him off lead for a moment, just to stretch his legs, he loved it and met a couple of other dogs, he was real excited, but the minute they took an interest in him, he ran back to my son, like I said before, he's a real softie.
He's also been watching TV again and will spend up to 15 - 20 minutes just staring. His favourites are lions, tigers, cheetahs, his little head moves and tilts, as they cross the screen, it's hilarious, even the family are surprised just how much he likes it. Simba, my first golden, used to do this, though she'd run at the TV and bark whenever animals were on the screen !! Kai just loves watching.
You know, is it that I miss my boys so much, that I'm putting all these coincidences together? I really don't know. Just that when I'm holding and stroking him, I feel close to the boys, and I often hold his litte face and look into his eyes, asking if my goldens' souls are in there too ???? It's like there are so many similarities along with new characteristics all mixed up together.
Well I'd better go now, need some sleep, will catch up with all your exploits soon, he's just taking so much time up, I need to get organised :-)
I Could read this over and over with a big Smile on my face! I can't tell you how happy I am for you! Love the part about Kai watching TV-that is SO CUTE!
I sometimes call my Tucker by Smooch's name and they are a different sex. Smooch is my Golden Girl at the Bridge!! I have felt many times that all the DOGS we've lost, come back to us again in another dog!! Tucker and Tonka share so many similarities and characteristics with our Smooch and Snobear. (who are at the Rainbow Bridge)

Thanks so very much, all your comments are greatfully received. Though I'm not too sure about the teething thing !! I've lost a piece of skirting board and a piece of stair carpet as part of Kai's teething ritual. I thought I'd a lot of toys for him to 'have a go' at and to keep him occupied, obviously not enough ! ! Me thinks Ill have to pay another visit to the pet store.

Yes, Kong toys are probably the best and sturdiest.
We've always used a crate when we've had a pup.
Just make sure you remove Kai's collar, before putting him in a crate.

It sounds as if you and Kai are settling in very well! I wouldn't worry about the name mix-up--my mom used to do that with her two daughters. Never bothered us at all because it was done with love.

I second the idea of the Kongs or other chewables. I've heard if people weaving rags into a tight braid, soaking them in broth or water and freezing them for teething puppies, too.

I'm so glad you have a puppy/ray of sunshine in your life. I'm sure Fluke and Harry are smiling down on you. I think as some point soon, you should start a thread on GRF just for Kai! We would all love to see pictures!

Fantastic update we are so happy for you that you have found Kai. It certainly does sound like he's settled in very well and he sounds so sweet watching tv like Simba used to, bless him.

Yes, a kong is definitely the way forward. We bought one for the gsd Eddie recently and he loves it! I wish we'd have discovered them when we had Daisy to keep her busy. Thanks for keeping us posted about Kai

Really great updates. I'm so glad that Kai is settling in so nicely. He sounds like the most wonderful boy (and smart too watching all those nature shows!!!) Would love to see more pictures of your handsome boy

Hi Maggsd. How are you doing? How is Kai? I'd love to hear an update on your new little bundle of joy.

Hi guys, sorry not been to forum as much recently. I'm having a bit of bad time with personal stuff, job etc. I hate to admit this, but I've even feeling pretty low. I went for a job interview, i hate them ! !!!! even though its only a temporary position but still made me feel awful.
Prior to going this morning I was overcome with tears for my boys, it just came out of nowhere. I'm so fond of 'not so little now' Kai, but for some reason I found myself just sobbing. I love my boys so much, I keep thinking they were here this time last year, and I was shopping for their Xmas pressys. It never entered my head they wouldn't be here now, they both seemed so fit for their ages. They're in my thoughts constantly. I feel a little guilty towards Kai. He's 6 months and in the full throws of 'puppyness'. He's really starting to push his boundaries and I find myself saying, I'm sure Fluke and Harry weren't so mischievous, though they probably were.
I'm hoping this immense sadness of my boys passes. I thought I'd managed to accept all that happened, but looks like despite the new addition, I've had a setback. Could do with some words of wisdom people :-(

It's partly the time of year. It's an emotional time, and I know I find emotions--good and bad--very close to the surface. Sometimes I think the whole point of Christmas/New Years is to reminisce, and sometimes that's painful to do.

I've been looking for work, and I know how you feel about interviews. And crying before going into one--I can't imagine how you felt, much less got through it!

I hope you'll cut yourself some slack. Not sure if that an expression where you are. Over here it means, be good to yourself and don't expect so much.

I hope you let Kai lick the tears off your face. I'm sure his mischief is the best thing in the world for you. Sending good thoughts winging to you.
