My 18 month old Golden is driving our family absolutely insane. haha. I need toy recommendations. He destroys most every toy in a matter of minutes. He gets bored so easily and then goes after kid toys and towels and everything else he sees.

Currently we have:

a rope toy that is huge that he can't destroy but doesn't care for it.
a rope with a tire toy that he doesn't even touch.
a black kong that he likes only in his crate, but hasn't yet destroyed it.
a yellow toy similar to the kong, I don't know the name of it as it was a gift, he LOVES this and has yet to destroy it.
a ChuckIt! ball that he absolutely LOVES.
an antler.
a jolly ball that he won't even touch.

He's destroyed a thousand other toys - ballistic nylon toys are a joke, the stuffing-free toys are gone in minutes. He LOVES squeaky toys and they keep him occupied forever, but he tears them apart in about 10 minutes. He once went through 10 squeaky toys in an hour... such a waste of money. He broke a tug-a-jug toy fairly quickly.

I've been told to get him the puzzle toys but I think he wouldn't touch them because they are work? He seems to not like things that aren't easy. haha.

Any ideas on toys that will last? And keep him occupied?

Hm. Well, based on what you've said he likes and doesn't like, I would perhaps look in to more treat dispensing toys (since he likes the KONG and a yellow toy that is like a KONG - which I'm assuming you stuff?). Planet dog makes a huge line of balls that have holes for treats (get the ones that are solid rubber, not the globe looking ones as the globe pieces fall off - Planet Dog Tuff Cosmos Luna.

Also, premier makes a lot of treat dispensing toys that are hardcore rubber, like this one - Premier Busy Buddy Squirrel. And also other bone shaped ones - Premier Pet Products Chuckle.

Have you ever bought West Paw toys? (The rubber ones, not the stuffed one) Mosby's favorite is this - West Paw Design Bumi. And its great for playing tug and hasn't been destroyed. I'm pretty sure they'll send you a new one if it does get destroyed (1 time).

KONG also makes other strong toys, like balls and frisbees - KONG Extreme Flyer Dog Toy

You can also always buy more antlers if he likes them, for variety, or have you tried nylabones? Mo won't touch them, but other people on the forum have success.

Also, what type of Jolly Ball do you have? Mo prefers this one - Jolly Pet Teaser Ball

I noticed Mosby's mom mentioned Nylabones which is what I was going to suggest. Finn destroys all of his toys too so I can only give him Nylabones. He wasn't that thrilled with them at first so I would smear a little bit of peanut butter on them to get him interested. He loves to chew them now. They're expensive, but last a long time.

I googled the west paw toys.. haha. The yellow one that I didn't have a name for, it's West Paw's Tux. He seriously loves that one and I'm glad to have a name for it for when he does eventually destroy it. lol

I'll check out the other kong ones. We've actually been stuffing them with ice. haha. He prefers ice over any dog treat/dog food out there. haha.

We used to have a Nylabone and he did enjoy that, I forgot about that one - I don't know what happened to it (between 6 kids and a dog, no clue where half of our stuff goes missing to....).. I'll pick another up tonight.

Would a bully stick be appropriate for him?

We have the tug and toss.. he hates it. haha. I'll check out the teaser ball.

Squeak toys would make him VERY happy. haha. And we can deal with the squeak if it means that we don't have to get up every 5 seconds to pull a kid toy from the back of his throat. ahaha. Oh I cannot wait until he's calmed down some.. he's still so very much a puppy in behavior. It's like he's on puppy speed 24/7. hahaha.

I ordered a few things early this morning from amazon that I read were good. One of them was a squeak toy that we used to have that he did kill - but it took like 2 months.

- Seek a Treat Shuffle Board
- Kyjen Dog Squeaker Mat - Squirrel
- Buster Food Cube
- Kyjen Hide-A-Bee

And the one he eventually destroyed but loved was the Just For Fun No Stuffing Plush Big Squeak Gator.

At this point, we'll buy almost anything to keep him from driving us insane chewing up toys and stuff. haha.

I don't really know that I would recommend a bully stick as something to keep him busy long. We buy 12 inch braded bullies and they're done in 30 minutes (we've started to use them just to keep him occupied while we cut his tails and trim his paw fur). You could try himalayan chews - the biggest size you can find.

If he likes squeaky toys and you don't mind them, you could try a JW Pet Cuz, as well!

The best toys I have had are homemade ones made from strips of fleece, braided together, then knotted at the ends and a couple times in the middle, about 15 inches long. They last about a year if not longer.

Also, every time you are done with a plastic gallon of milk, or a plastic soda bottle ( take the plastic pieces of the top ), give it to him. It will occupy him for a very long time, and at the end of the day, just throw it away.

Never thought of that.... hmm.... that's smart. I remember my dad giving our chihuahua random stuff from around the house when I was a kid. haha. This won't cause a problem with him trying to counter surf and steal stuff that isn't his? We are still working on the counter surfing issue, although it's a TON better than it used to be.
