| Prayers for my Hurley, please... Hurley my beautiful Siberian Husky, not even 6 years old yet is having a really rough time. Hurley has seizures, IBD and skin issues since he was about 15 months old. His seizures were always well controlled on a low dose of phenobarbital until last October...he clustered. His dose was doubled by our Vet, but he wasn't concerned and did not want to check any levels on him. January 4th and 5th Hurley clustered again with 7 grand mal seizures in less than 30 hours...he was hospitalized at the emergency clinic and given IV valium. They again increased his pheno dose by another 50% and added potassium bromide. They did check his pheno level and got back to me two days later saying he was at a toxic level. I was told to stay with the treatment until levels were tested again by my Vet in 3 weeks. February 1 st Pheno, KBr levels were done and I insisted my Vet also run a liver panel - Hurleys ALKP has been elevated for quite some time but not dangerously so. His pheno level came back lower which was good - KBr was at a good level but his liver enzymes were crazy high ALKP was at about 4300 and ALT was at 259. My Vet told me to add milk thistle and sam-e - we had tried once before and Hurley had a horrible IBD flare from it. But... I listened and did it. Two days later Hurley was hospitalized at the emergency clinic again this time a massive IBD bleed, it all happened so fast. He had started with the runs about 4 pm, still acting fine and wanted dinner so I added some rice. Then he began to vomit...I followed him around the yard checking piles and everything looked like normal runny poop etc. He had begun fighting coming inside, my son picked him up and carried him inside - he laid on his bed for a while and seemed ok. We let him out again before bed, he again fought coming in but I managed. I planned on sleeping on the couch with him...he paced to the door a couple of times - I told him to lay down. Then I looked and blood was every where. By the time we got to ER Hurley was in shock and critical condition...he has been home since last Thursday. Sunday evening Hurley started urinating dark orange - I took him to our Vet for a recheck and he is jaundiced. He was started on Ursodiol but a low dose and with my pleading the Vet agreed we needed to stop the Phenobarbital and are weaning him onto Keppra. Wednesday night I saw the telltale port wine urine, the next morning he was extremely weak and lethargic, pale gums. I have been here before and knew what was happening - I took him back in to check his PCV level and sure enough he is now anemic. My poor boy, he doesn't deserve this - he is such a good dog. Hurley has saved my life more than once...why can't I save his? He is slipping away from me...and he is just a baby - my baby boy. Please send him healing thoughts and energy - we need a miracle to heal him, but Hurley deserves a miracle. Julie

| He is here at home...we go back Tuesday to get his PCV checked again, if it has gone down anymore we are in trouble. Treatment would be high doses of prednisone and because his liver is so bad now he would not be able to handle it. It seems everything we need to do to help him causes more harm to him...If it isn't killing his liver, it is killing his stomach. We are a bundle of nerves on seizure watch - he is on a very fast wean off the phenobarbital. He does seem to be adjusting well to the Keppra, much better than he did to the addition of potassium bromide.
