I just picked up my senior high school student. Shocked and angry is putting it mildly. A lot of police near the high school and the elementary schools in our village as I drove by. Newtown is so close to us....It's the holiday season! How can you grasp that even an elementary school is not sacred anymore? A place where our little ones go to learn, where they should go without a care in the world? I just don't understand...

I have been in shock all day. I can't imagine what must be going through those innocent children that had to live through this and what it must have been like for those children that were killed. The families ... oh my I just can't understand. All of them are in my prayers.

The name has been corrected to Adam Lanza. Ryan Lanza is reported to be the brother now in custody.

They are very, very sick people who do things like this. Many of them have tried to get help, but our laws and community services don't give them and their families much support.

Tears streaming...I was away from news most of the day and heard this news on the radio while driving. It's good that I didn't have far to go. Just got home and reached for my laptop to be here with this community. I cannot bring myself to turn the TV on, knowing how terrible the images will be.

My heart goes out to everyone affected by this horrible tragedy - the parents who have lost small children, the families of the wounded or dead teachers, the first responders dealing with this nightmare, all of the people associated with the school who will struggle with this for a long time to come... The list boggles the mind and rips at the heart.

Can't imagine the pain the Danbury Hospital Staff must be feeling. Pronouncing 20 young kids dead has to be devastating.

I am a teacher myself. You train for things, but when it actually happens, you are just a human being...the more I hear about it, the more appreciation I have for the teachers; they hid kids in closets, they made sure they were safe. Really very, very impressive. First the kids, second the kids....and then you....

Well, I am mad as hell! and I am sick to my stomach with grief. Those were babies, who had dreams and hopes all set to do as they grew up. They were innocents, again...our babies. When this came on at work, every single one of us stopped in our tracks and just froze. Mothers started calling their children's school, just to hear a reasuring voice tell them all was OK. Think all I could do was sit in shock. I send my prayers to all the parents who sit and wait for the conformation that their child was one of the victims. I am so sorry for the adults killed too, but my mind is butting up against the idea of anyone harming a child. I just can't get a handle on this.

I hope all our CT people check in and let us know they and their children are alright. I too came right in the door and to the computer to check in with my "forum" family. I knew you would be here. Still have my jacket on!

May God be with those parents and all the parents, teachers and children of that community. I just can't get my head around this. So sad, so angry for the lives ripped away.
