Being a parent of an elementary school student, how do we tell our kids it is safe to go back to school themselves. This is going to be all over the news. My nine year old already reads the news on the internet.

Some days it just doesn't pay to read or watch the news. I opened up up the New York Times on my iPad just now to learn about the shooting of little kids at an elementary school in Sandy Hook, CT. Senseless, and pain-causing for multiple lives and lifetimes.

My prayers go to all affected. I hope none of our GRF families lost someone in Sandy Hook.

That picture is absolutely heart wrenching. What in the he** goes through a person's mind that could do something as horrendous as this? My heart is breaking for everyone involved. Cant even comprehend it...

I am so saddened and heartbroken about this. I have a 10 year old at elementary and a 14 yr old at high school and I just want to go get them right now and keep them close. This is horrific and such a senseless act I can't stop crying. I couldn't imagine being told your child is gone. I know it doesn't matter what time of year but so close to Christmas is so heart wrenching. Very sad day. Very sad sad day.

I am trying to decide how closely I want to follow this story. I try very hard to stay informed. This is all there will be in the news for the next few weeks, and I'm not sure if I can bear watching and knowing about so much pain.

A suggestion (unasked for, but offered nonetheless) for those with school-age children: keep the TV news off for a few days. You don't want your children to see the pictures that are going to be shown.
