I think we are going to see a lot of wackos come out and call in threats, etc., in the coming weeks. They are taking advantage of the tension and fear that everyone is experiencing. Most will be just threats, but they all have to be checked out. This kind of awful event brings out the worst--and the best--in people. I'm trying very hard to stay tuned in to the events of the world while trying to not them overwhelm me. It's hard!

I will leave the comment at that as the rest that is in my head may be interpreted political.
I initially planned to take my daughter out of school on Friday 12/21/12 just because of all the end of the world crazies combined with a school threat rumor.
Yes I know there are crazy people everywhere and like I said I didn't want to offend anyone , we just hear a lot more of gun violence in the states so it unfortunately gives a bad rap to the USA. I know that America is a beautiful place and its because of a few people that has tarnished it some.
As we speak my daughter is on code red alert and lock down as a precaution, but will not tell he students unless it is needed. I gave her a huge hug and actually walked away teary , I wasn't going to take her but she baked a cake and was so excited for the Xmas party today. I sit now and just hope I made the right decision. Rumour has it the boy who made the threats has ran away I hope it's just rumour.

When I was in elementary school in the 70's, the big thing was bomb threats. At least a few times a year we would have a bomb threat, in those days, they treated them like fire drills, we would have to line up outside and quite a few times they would just send us home, instead of letting us back into the school.

I received about ten different letters from teachers, principals, superintendents and other school officials that I have never heard of explaining all the practices at the schools in my town. I am sort of glad that they sent them, but also a little upset, because now it is public knowledge of what the procedures are. For security reasons, I don't think these should be public knowledge.

One thing that was interesting, is that our high school is a round shape, so the hallways are curved. When we were taking the tour, the guide jokingly said the halls were made that way so a shooter could not shoot somebody down the hall. It actually made a lot of sense to me, and gives me some comfort that students would have more of a chance to get away.

I hope everything is okay at your school. Unfortunately, there will be a lot of copy cats.

Our schools also quite often go into lock down if there is a nearby police chase, escapee, or severe weather.

I talked to my daughters teacher this morning and they are in lockdown as a precaution of this kid. We are in a small town 12,000 , I hope this kid and his family speak out and apologize for putting us threw this. I have our radio station on and just hoping not to hear breaking news.

I listened to the NRAs statement today about this incident(the only one since it happened)I couldn't agree more.My daughters school has an armed Sheriffs deputy at her school all the time.Just a few days ago an officer stopped a car in front of the school(about 300 yards from the front door)two men got out ran toward the school,I'm sure they had no intent but before they got close the school was locked down & Deputy Jeff was out front to stop arrest them.My daughter was afraid but safe. The school called & offered counceling but my daughter said she felt safe when Jeff was there. He also teaches her shooting team on his own time.
