The vet confirmed today what I have suspected for several weeks. The cardiologist came in and did an ultrasound, and the regular vet took X-rays. Tess's heart disease has progressed to a level where she is considered to have congestive heart failure, and she's now on a bunch of medication. I have heard of Cavaliers living for up to three years on the heart meds, but the usual life span is 6 months to a year.

I'm hoping against hope that Tess is the exception--the dog that responds really well to the meds. They started the meds this morning, and I think she already seems perkier. But time wil tell.

So, please send healing thoughts to Tessie. She's a plucky little thing who brings a lot of joy to the people in her life.

so sorry to hear about your Tess... I have heard that they can live up to a year and that cavs are prone to heart issues... I know of several dogs with heart issues that have lived significantly longer than the vets said they would... I hope your tess is one of them

So sorry to hear. The only good that come from such news is identifying what your up against. My pets have bettered such timeline. Hope you have the same result.

I am so sorry to hear about Tess, but like you I'm hopeful that the meds will really help.

We had a female, Samoyed, named Munchkin, that had congestive heart failure, and she was on Lasix for quite sometime, and it really helped her.
