Hello and thank you

Hello, my name is Kate and I have been reading this forum for several months now. You guys are so helpful and knowledgeable!

My family has had three golden retrievers over the years, Chessie (b. 1996, lived to be 13), Hannah (b. 2003, lived to be 12.5) and Allie (b. 2009, lived to be 7). The last two years have been hard. My Hannah died in August 2015 from cancer, and then at the beginning of September 2016 my Allie had a ruptured spleen, almost died, and was diagnosed with splenic hemangiosarcoma. We worked with an oncologist but it metastasized and we lost her on December 27. I am finding each day without my Allie very hard. It is especially difficult for me because Allie was only 7 and had always been a healthy girl. But I know cancer can be like that. Goldens have been part of my life for twenty years and I cannot imagine my life without them.

Before Allie got sick I had started looking into finding a puppy to bring home to be Allie's younger sister. But once we learned about the hamangiosarcoma I held off because I wanted to give my Allie all of the love and care I could. Now I am starting my search back up, and this forum has been very helpful in educating me on what to look for in a reputable breeder. It is amazing how much there is to learn! I will post on the "Choosing A Golden Retriever Breeder & Puppy" forum shortly. In the meantime it does me good to see all of the pictures of your goldens that you have shared here, and hear happy stories about your dogs and puppies.

Hi Kate! Welcome to the forum. I am so sorry about your loss of Allie - she was way too young. I'm glad you've been reading a lot about breeders, etc. There are so many knowledgeable people on this forum that if you have questions, I'm sure they can answer them.

When you are ready, please tell us all about Allie and Hannah and Chessie.

I am so sorry for your loss of Allie. I lost my golden girl. Sophie to hemangiosarcoma Oct. 12. she would have turned 13 two days ago. I lost my 7 year old blind Great Pyrenees to the same thing Oct. 2014. By the time we knew they had the tumors, they had ruptured and it was to late. So many of us here have lost a golden to this cancer.

But, one thing, we can always be thankful for the time we had with our prefcious dogs and cherish the memories of fun and good times with them. Some folks never ever know the love of a dog, so we are lucky to have found it many times. And please, share pictures and stories of your lost ones. That helps and we all love to see pictures.

PS Got to the Rainbow Bridge section and read The Awakening. I usually tend ot get a little down on the dogs birthday's or the dates they passed, so I read this and it really helps me.

AT THE BRIDGE
SCOOTER 6/14/94 - 8/22/99
BUCK 2/8/95 - 5/15/07
HUNTER 8/19/99 - 10/16/03

I lost my last dog to hemangiosarcoma in 2009. She collapsed at home and my wife and neighbor got her in the car. The neighbor drove and my wife sat with the dog. She passed away on the ride to the vet. Shelly was only 5 years old. Sorry for your loss.

Oh, whemtp, I am so sorry to hear about your Shelly. It hurts so much to lose a dog that young. I hope you have one or more dogs now bringing joy to your life.
