New to Goldens.

Hello, we recently got our very first Golden Retriever. For 20 years we have been a family of the boxer breed. We lost our last boxer last summer and my daughter (even though 19 yrs old and at college) has always wanted a Golden. Funny how she goes back to college after Christmas break and I'm the one left with a naughty puppy.
Gauge is now 10 weeks old and we all have fell in love with him. Even though his attention span is shorter than his legs.

Thank you for his forum, I am learning a lot.

Tracy
Gauge's mom.

Hi and welcome to the forum, sorry for the loss of your boxer. Gauge sounds like a typical golden puppy, would love to see a photo!.

Oh my gosh Gauge is adorable . We got our previous golden when my boys were in college. The homecomings were so beautiful to see how excited my pup and grown (well almost grown) boys were to see each other. Enjoy!

One major difference between the Boxers and Gauge is the boxers HATED the cold and hurried and did their business and couldn't wait to get back in the house. Gauge on the other hand whines just so he can go out and lay in a snow bank. We got about 6 inches of snow over night, the first real snow since we've had him and he was so excited this morning!

Hello and welcome to you and gorgeous Gauge. We lost our last golden. Sophie on Oct. 12. She would have turned 13 on the 8th of this month. HOWEVER we do have a Great Pyrenees, Sir Moose and he LOVES< LOVES the cold. Now we do not get much cold down here on the Texas coast (we live just out of Corpus Christi), but last week we had a cold snap like we had not had in years. It got down to to 22 two nights in a row. It destroyed my hibiscus plants--which were `12 feet tall, my poinsettia which was over 6 feet tall and 6 feet wide, plus my ferns, etc. We4 do not think all are dead, but will have to be cut back.

But the thing is Moose LOVES the cold. My husband walks him every morning and Sir Moose could not understand why he was not getting his morning walks. Hubby did take him when it warmed up to upper or mid 30's. But he is almost 73 and I am almost 72 and neither of us need to be sick again. So Sir Moose had to be satisfied for the most part just laying out on the patio.
