Just got my second GR 7 weeks ago. My first died at 13+ years old, 4 years ago. But the problem is that my new girl Kyra was diagnosed with a heart murmur when she was 6 weeks old. She's been to a cardio doc and was put on Atenolol. She was gaining weight slowly, but now doesn't want to eat. I am force feeding soft, high quality, dog food with a syringe. It's the only way she will eat. She goes back o the vet this Wed. for another exam and her rabies shot. Tomorrow or the day I go to the vet I plan on buying high calorie gel as well as some steak and anything else the vet suggests. If she won't eat the steak, I plan to puree it. I'll do what I have to so she'll eat. I also plan to get some pedialyte because I'm thinking if she's not eating enough she's not getting enough fluids. I hope I can get her past all this, my first Golden was easy, very eay. Never was sick till she died. Oh it seems 3 weeks ago Kyra's murmur went from a grade 3 to a grade 2. Seems she would be feeling better and want to eat? Anyway just a shout out from VA wanted to say hi, introduce myself and Kyra as well as letting everyone know what I'm up against! I hope everyone is well! Sandi B.

Well you were right. I took Kyra to the vet right away and it felt like she was dying in my arms. They did blood work and found out she had chronic kidney failure. The vet felt it was congenital because she already had a heart murmur. So they gave her a sedative and let her go in my arms. I've never lost a puppy before and my heart is broken. I have never felt so sad in my entire life. My friend thinks I need to find another, but one that doesn't look like Kyra. So I'll look around and if it's meant for me to have another little girl to love then I'll find one. I miss having a Golden, I was finally ready after my 13 year old died 4 years ago. And yet I get Kyra and she's taken from me. Anyway please think positive thoughts that I can find a puppy to help me get thro Kyra's death. Thanks for letting me cry on your shoulders...Sandi :(

Hi Sandi. Very sorry to hear about your girls heart murmer. Are you sure that is what is causing Her to not want to eat though? I would almost think it could possibly be something else.
How does she act otherwise?

So sorry to hear about your baby. Please try baby food. When my golden was ill someone told me to give her baby food meat. I actually fed it to her with a spoon. She gobbled it up. At least give it a try. GOOD LUCK~~~ :)

I am so sorry for your loss. I would email the breeder (if you got her from a breeder) and make sure he/she is aware of what you went through.

RIP little one!

New puppy

well after sobbing for a solid week I started looking for another girl. I found her! She was born on April 20th and I'll be getting her the second or 3rd week of June. I'm going to meet her weekend after next. I have a Rottie that adored Kyra who is named Ziva, so since I'm a huge NCIS fan, I'm naming my new baby Abby. I just can't wait till June gets here! Ziva has been so sad and I think a new little sister will perk her back up. I'm going to take a few pics of her when I go meet her, so if I learn how to put pics on here I would love to show her to you all. I have to travel a hour and a halfway one way, but she will be so worth it. Thank you everyone for your sympathy and your kind words. I'm picking up Kyra's ashes in a day or two, and putting her with a couple of my other fur kids in the curio cabinet. But when my flower garden is all complete that is where I plan to put her. She is missed very much, but hopefully Abby will help to heal our hearts. I promise you guys will see a lot of me after Abby joins the family. Thank you again for being so supportive during a difficult time. Hugs to all, Sandi

I'm going to meet her this weekend! I can't wait! She will be 4 weeks old and then I can go get her around the 8th when she's 7 weeks old. I'm going to try and get a couple pics of her when I go if the breeders allow me to. I'm very excited to meet my baby girl!
