| Hi! I'm in Utah, too! Chester is gorgeous! My Marilyn kind of looks like him. I just had her DNA test done and she has no golden retriever and no border collie in her though. Would Chester rather retrieve or herd or does he do both? Marilyn is half lab and she LOVES to retrieve her beloved balls. Helo is pure golden retriever (as far as I know. I got him from a rescue) and he doesn't retrieve at all. Silly boy! Welcome to the forum.

![]() As far as retrieving and herding, Chester will fetch the balls when you throw them, but loses interest after a little while. We have horses that graze behind our house and at least once a day he will run to the back of the property and bark at them through the fence. Not sure if that counts as herding?? He doesn't herd my children like our previous dog...a German Shepherd.

| The DNA test I had done is called Wisdom Panel Insights and I got the Mixed Breed DNA Kit. I ordered it from amazon and it is about $63. They send you a kit with 2 bristle ended swabs and you swab the area between their cheek and gum and send them back to be analyzed. It took a total of about 3 weeks. Also you have to sure the dog hasn't eaten or chewed on anything for 2 hours before you do the swab so it's good to do it first thing in the morning. With Marilyn, I knew her mom was a yellow lab but had no idea what the dad was so I was curious to see what the DNA test showed. I was convinced the dad was border collie or possibly a black lab/golden retriever mix? I was really surprised when the result showed one parent was a Lab/chinese crested mix. Huh? Chinese crested? They are small, almost hairless dogs! After reading about them I concluded Marilyn may have gotten her agility and powder puff fur from them. The other parent was half lab and the other half mixed which included St. Bernard, Standard Poodle, Great Pyrenees, Flat coated retriever and clumber spaniel. She is truly a mixed breed and so very cute and sweet. If you do the DNA test I'd love to hear what your results turn out to be. I will attach a picture of Marilyn with her beloved balls this summer.
