Hi  , i recently got a golden retriever pup ( atleast that's what the breeder says) but i think he is a golden labrador but still he is the best. I had a spitz before and he died of old age a long time ago.
I am hoping that the members here can help me decide wether he is a golden retriever or a labrador.
Sometimes it's harder to tell when they're so young. Don't let the short hair fool you. I've seen goldens with short hair (not as short as a labs though).
yes he was sold as a purebred golden. The breeder himself is amazed becoz i sent him these pics and he said that he double checked the parents are pure golden retievers.
One more thing i would like to know is that i am feeding him Royal Canin labrador retriever junior so should i continue with this or should i switch to Royal Canin Golden retriever junior?
Welcome, your pup is very sweet. Looks Golden Retriever to me as too feathery and fluffy to be a labrador and has the typical Retriever lines on the face but could be a cross too I guess. The second photo is very Retriever looking. Whichever he is, he's lovely!
If the food you are feeding him is working for you both(he's eating and thriving and it suits your wallet), I don't think that would necessitate a change. Not sure what brands are available to you at your location, but if you have others you are curious about, this is always a great place to inquire about food.
I am attaching a picture of my previous golden 'Mack' when he was approximately 3 months old as well as one at 10 months old to show how short his hair was. He was a purebred golden but always had shorter hair. He managed to grow some nice fringes and a beautiful tail when he got older.
Thank you all for you replies. Well he eats any food i give him so i guess i will continue with the same if there is no such thing as breed specific food.
