Cool Long time reader.. First time poster

Hello fellow dog lovers! My name is Joe

I found this forum, while doing a little research before getting my puppy.

I have a Female Golden and I love my dog! Although, at times I just wish she was goldfish! I bought her from a breeder about 75 mile from me and at the time, I really wanted a dog. So I bought her without knowing too much about much.

She was the runt of the litter and others have gone to the breeder and said they didn't want the runt. So I decided to give her a chance! I dont know much about the breeder, but they said the parents have clearances. So that was good enough for me! Plus she was a dark golden, which I was looking for!

She is now 9 months old today and she drives me up the wall, lol. Btw, her name is Nikki. She's very hyper and only listens, if I am the only one around...in the house. Outside, she plays the game of cat and mouse.

For play time, since she's been a little squirt, I've been using a laser in the backyard, for her to chase, until she lays down. And inside for my amusement! I also have a toy box full of all kinds of toys and bigger bones. She loves the noisy toys and really loves the furry ones the most. For bones, I've been giving her those pizzle bones. She loves them so much, there gone in 30 mins. And I also use empty plastic soda bottles.

With my busy job, I hardly do any training, other than sit, lay down, come (this is hard for her to remember) and stay. She self taught herself some thing too! Like... shake, give me 5/10 and how to put and keep her head down when putting on her collar! Oh and stepping into her harness, before taking a walk.

And talking about her collar, I've been using the petsafe ultrasmart inground fence since she was 5m old. But with the training tips on. I also have the indoor barrier, that I put in different place, to teach her where I dont want her to go. Like the kitchen area! She was shocked 2 times and now for 6m since, she has not entered the kitchen, even though after 1 week of her getting shocked, I moved it behind the couch and other places.

So now that you know a little about Nikki, I'll try and post some pics and start asking those questions about raising her to be the dog I want her to be!
