Hi all, love the site. I am a law student in Dallas and as such tend to research and research again on everything so this place is a gold mine! I've never had a golden before and honestly didn't plan on having one (I've always had Great Pyrenees) but I heard about a few puppies that were being taken to the pound by people who "didn't feel like they could raise a dog after all" and I couldn't let that happen! So now here I am with my little rescue dog, Clancy!

She is very bright and wants to learn about everything. I'm excited about a new best friend! Considering the circumstances of her adoption, I obviously didn't get to research her bloodline or anything, but we are up for the adventure together.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone!

I am at SMU. 3L, done in may... And can't wait.

Thanks on the name! It was my mother's maiden name and I couldn't let it just disappear, it is too cool.

That is great to know there are many members in the metroplex, I'll be leaning on you all for some advice. I'm really excited to start checking out some dog parks after we get our vaccinations finished with. Clancy is 12 weeks so we have a little more to go. Any tips you have off the top of your head for a metroplex dwelling pup? Dog Mammal Vertebrate Dog breed Canidae

I was advised when our pups were little to avoid the dogparks. Our then vet said he sutured several dogs/week from attacks. There is no way to know if dogs there are well behaved, healthy, etc. Better to find a few dogs you know are friendly and healthy for socialization IMO. The one at White Rock is especially nasty. Both Dallas Gold and I live in the White Rock area.

Congrats on almost being done. Are you planning on staying in the area? My son went to law school at Duke, then clerked in Denver for a year. We were hoping he would end up back here, but he opted for Austin.

Thanks for the advice on the parks! As soon as we get finished with vaccines we will be looking to get more social, but NOT (per all the advice) at the dog parks.

Thanks also to everyone on the congrats! 3L is nice and easy compared to the others, so we have plenty of time for puppy training. I'm definitely open to any rec's on courses/places.

A clerkship in Denver?? How great is that! I would love such an opportunity. Right now the job prospects are in Houston mostly, or I may practice with my brother in Rockwall. Clancy is leaning toward Rockwall as bro has 15 acres for her to run on out there. I also co own a business in Austin non legal related, so I am not ruling anything out.

I am so excited that there is a big dallas community on here. I am in east Dallas so I wouldn't be surprised if I ran into you White Rock folks!

Welcome!! Congrats on almost being done with Dedman School of Law!! Have you lined up your job and are you gearing up for Bar Review? Fun times!

I agree with Betty, we don't do dog parks with our dogs based on one bad experience the first week the Mockingbird Point Dog Park opened and on the advice of our dogs' veterinarian. According to the veterinarian, the Mockingbird Point Dog Park is particularly nasty from infectious disease standpoint, including ringworm and parasites. In addition, it's in a heavy parvo area of town. I'm not familiar with the other dog parks in town.

Clancy is a cutie!!

I'm in the burbs just north of you - and we don't do dog parks either. But we live across the street from a huge park, which we use often.
We also have a long lead that we can use for more exercise.

As soon as Clancy has her rabies vaccnie, get her into obedience classes. I know you are busy as a 3L, but it doesn't really take much time - and it is a good break for you. We also did the 100 people in 100 days, which you can do easily at SMU.

Welcome and good luck.
