| 2 Seizures Today...What Next! This morning just before 8 AM Tailer slammed into a rigid, thrashing, drooling, blank stared boy. It lasted maybe 3-4 minutes...then maybe 5 minutes to get back to looking normal..."What's Up Mom?" Hubby was on the phone to the Vet's before Tailer had stopped thrashing. We jumped into the car and drove 45 minutes to our Vet's...body physical, eyes, ears, gums, teeth, nose to tail...all fine. Because of the massive drooling we were thinking maybe Tailer had gotten into something...which would be rare. Bloodwork was done and everything was fine...red n white cell count fine, kidney n liver function fine... Well...just before 9 PM he had another one! This one didn't last as long, almost, but not quite in the thrashing stage, but he did get up and walked into the next room and became rigid again. Any words of wisdom?

| I am surprised they didn't pump his stomach. Did they give you any valium? Two times in 24 hours is serious. Have you notified his Vet about the 2nd one?

| Oh No! Poor Tailer, Poor you! I have no words of wisdom but I hope you get to the bottom of it quickly. I know there are some dogs here that are on meds to prevent siezures. If I recall it was phenobarbytal. sp. That has to be so scary to watch. Tailer will be in our thoughts.

| No words of wisdom, but I sure don't like to hear this news about our Tailer Are you taking him back to the vet? |

| Vet's is not open after 5 PM...Emergency Vet is 1.5 hours away. I will give them a call in the morning a blow off work if they want to see him again. The blood work would have showed poison if any were present...they said. Thanks Rob & Oakly & Caue! No Valium for me or Tailer! Tailer is 4 years old and in great physical shape. We did our walk this morning before #1. After the Vet's he went to work with me...stayed in the car...his mobile doghouze. Played this evening and visited His Betty n they played Betty Ball...she tosses the ball into her kitchen, he takes it back to her...then she tosses it down the hall...the two of them can play for hours...ate his dinner. Just hanging out and then #2...was hoping he would never have another one...but 2 in one day...I'm shaking!

| How old is Tailer? Did they do a full thyroid panel on Tailer? Sometimes the cause of seizures can be from low thyroid. Did the vet say anything about putting him on any meds like phenobarbital or potassium brohmide? It does concern me that he had two of them in the same day. You might ask the vet to get the valium suppositories for him. They help to bring them out faster and keep them calm. I know what you are going thru as when they first happened with Beau, I was so scared. After going thru a couple of them, I would become so calm during them that I could wake from a dead sleep in a heartbeat and have towels under him within seconds of it starting. This website was a godsend to me to help learn about seizures and made handling them so much easier. http://www.canine-epilepsy-guardian-...CanineEpil.htm Seizures can be scary but I want you to know the dogs do not know what is happening and it doesnt hurt them. Just stay calm, put a towel under them and a washcloth on his head. Talk calmly and pet him. They say they dont know but I think that it helped to sooth Beau when I pet him and talked to him during it. Also keep a journal of everything that he does, eats, drinking, and meds. Sometimes you can start to see a patten. I did with Beau with his heartworm pills, he was on heartguard. He always had a seizure within 48 hours after taking it. There is ivermectin in the heartguard that brought them on, so we switched to Interceptor. And that slowed them down. Also ask them to test for lead in his system. I know it is an odd request but we now look back and think that the lead in the resin of the fountain that we had may have been a cause of Beau's seizures. The paint started peeling and he draink out of it all the time. Later when all the stuff came out about China and lead in everything we checked and found that the fountain was made in China. We got rid of the fountain the year before and got a concrete one. But by that time it was too late to test for lead when we heard about it. I will say a prayer for Tailer that these were the last seizures and he will be ok.

| 2 in one day feels like a game changer. I bet you are shaking, like red alert. I'm not liking this, I have no experience. If it was poison or something, you'd think there would be other symptoms like vomiting. You gotta hang on til the morning. You poor thing, to have these come out of the blue like this. Had you ever experienced seizures before? I would be a wreck. You've always been so good for me with Daisy...I feel useless. I'm going to go give a heads up to all our friends and I'll keep an eye out for an update. |
