| Benny I've read through many of the posts on this forum tonight and here I though I was mostly alone with our dog Benny and his epilepsy. Benny is a little over 5 years old and started having seizures just a little over a year ago. Out of the blue, he had 9 in one day and we rushed him to the animal hospital. They put him on pheno and then the next day we took him to our vet. They put him on a small dosage of pheno and to make a long story short, he finally ended up on a dosage of 100mg (2 tablets 2x a day) and 1 pill of Pb. I've charted them since they've started on a calendar in the kitchen and typically he has them about every 25-30 days. When he has them, they are typically around 2AM - 5AM and about 45 mins later, he'll have another one (usually the worse of the two) and then he's fine for another 25-30 days. This has been going on for about a year, he did have a 40 day period when he didn't have any and we prayed that maybe he was done with them. This weekend he had one right before his noon Pb pill, which was odd and then a second one about 2.5 hours later - again, odd for him. I thought, well, I can at least sleep better now knowing it will be another 25-28 days. I was wrong, he had one this morning right before his pheno pills and then another one tonight before his evening dose of pheno pills. I'm going to take him to the vet in the morning for blood work. I'm thinking they might have to up his dosages. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you who have dogs that go through this.. it's horrible. Even after many, many seizures, I still can't sleep most nights and my wife usually finds me on the couch within ear distance of where Benny sleeps. My daughters refuse to be home alone with him and we pretty revolve our family around Benny for the most part. I'm hoping he has a peaceful night, although seizures are horrible anytime, they are worse when he has them before morning. Here is a picture of Benny... we have 3 other dogs and have never gone through this before. God bless.. |

| Ugh! I hate seizures...so unpredictable!!! My old girl had them...no fun. I am so sorry you are going through this. I'm so glad you are going to get Benny's bloodwork done. There's a canine epilepsy website that has a TON of great information. The actual web address name escapes me- I think the word "angel" is in it??? Your Benny is one handsome fella'! Good luck at the vets'! |
