I am sorry Tom had some more seizures after he went so long without. I hope you are able to find the trigger. My Abby started with seizures at 6 months old. After different meds we found Potassium Bromide to finally stop them for a long time. Then bam she had one, then a few months later another. Found out Frontline was triggering them. She had been on Frontline for years, but then one day it affected her. Good luck to you and Tom!!!

I am confused...easy to do, I feel brain dead some days...anyway, KBr...I brouht some home from the Neurologists, but am trying Chinese Herbs first but the KBr is 250mg/ml sol/ml...liquid form, not in pill form. I was to start with a loading Dose of 12ml 2x/d for two days, then 5ml 1x/d, or 2.5ml 2x/d if Tailer has a problem with the 5ml's.

Are you giving Tom 325mg's or is that the strength? I know it is compounded (mixed)/need...I just don't understand...Teach Me, K?

Extra Hugs for Both of You!

I am giving Tom 2 tablets per day, each of 325mg Kbr and I believe that is the weight of the tablet.

Thanks for this. You're in a realm far beyond what I have dealt with. And I know we have GRF members who have dogs that have lived with seizures for nearly a decade, eventually requiring 3 meds to control them. I hope you hear from them.

I will let you know if I find anything that might be helpful as I continue to search the web.

Hugs and prayers,
Lucy

Our Jake started having seizures 3 months after he adopted us February 2000. It was a truly terrifying experience. I just wanted to tell you that he was on the same drug regiment (I've blocked out the dosage sizes, sorry) with the rectal Valium at the onset of his seizures. Sometimes, we had to rush him to Dr. H. for intravenous treatment. He would go into clusters. But he had such a strong, wonderful spirit we were willing to do anything for him. So many sleepless nights that I would gladly repeat. Thankfully we had a little of 2 years seizure free--until April of 2010. We estimate he was about 12 by this time.

Yes, it's possible...he was also on a raw diet. Let me tell you, that boy LOVED his food.

I really wish I'd found this forum sooner. So nice to know you're not alone. My best wishes for you & your boy Tom.

well after another horrible week with Tom having focal seizures, and him charging round the house like some mad prancing horse trying to hide in a corner and climb the wall I finally took him for a MRI scan and spinal tap today.
Good news is there's no brain tumour, and we have to wait 2 or 3 days for the spinal tap results. The neurologist also pointed out that some of his liver values are not right and we need to address them with his local vet. We are also increasing the kbr and to be given in one go in the evening. We're not out of the woods yet, but at least we know it isn't a brain tumour. Will update when we've seen his vet
