The pros and cons of owning a dog.

Pros

Too many to list

Cons

I've had Ryley since late August of 2010 and after a long cold winter... spring is finally here.

However, my back lawn now looks like this.... <sigh> Can it be saved?

You mean there's actually cons to owning a dog?

Apparently... at least according to my wife so far this weekend. She took Ryley with her, out of town, to visit her parents in BC.

She sent me this message on Facebook, last night.....

"
come get your dog, he won't listen to me! he's being very bad won't go to bed, keeps running off when I let him out, won't come when called, keeps asking to go out but then won't pee...... I'm tired and he won't let me sleep. "

I have often told my husband, you can have dogs OR you can have a perfect lawn - not likely to have both at the same time!! I choose dogs!!

I wish we had the same problem with our lawn... o_O

I'm taking a break from mowing and gardening right now because there is too much super long and thick grass out back around my garden. o_O It is very green though.

Thank goodness for leglifters, I guess.

ETA - we treat the grass with grubx and so forth at the end of fall. That seems to help prevent some of the grass problems.

You mean there's hope once Ryley starts peeing all the time by lifting his leg? Right now mostly he just squats to pee. The only time he lifts his leg is at the dog park when he's marking.

No, not really. Then every/anything vertical will be dead.

It will get better, once he starts using the trees instead of the middle of the lawn (if you can landscape some rock or mulch around the bases of the trees and trim the evergreens so he can get to the truck...).

We have a dog run but still have the dead grass issue since I don't like Bender going down the steps to the dog run.

He's cute though, remind your wife of that.

He's adorable. And, to quote my Mum, "Cute will save you every time." It is always better to be cute than innocent.

Cons: Places that you can't take your dog and challenge of finding sitters that are dog crazy enough to meet your approval. On occasion, costs. Walking in bad weather or when you fill ill. Paying extra on rent. Wearing dog hair. If more people welcomed dogs with open arms, this list would be shorter!

Pros: Endless, endless list.
