Puppy Kindergarten Recommendation

We are picking up our new Golden girl on Saturday (8 weeks). Can't wait to have her as part of our family! I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on Puppy Kindergarten classes in (or close to) my area, Hopkinton, MA. Yankee Golden Retriever Club is not currently offering them due to a building issue. I plan on eventually showing her in obedience and whatever else she might like.... So, I would love to be around other Goldens in training.

Just need to make sure pup has had all vacs before starting.
At our class last night there were pups at 11 weeks who couldn't have had all their shots. Sasha is just finishing his at 13 weeks.

As your vet and puppy trainer about how many shots they need before they start. Both of mine said we could start before the final set and I know the trainer cloroxed the floor before we got there because I saw it happen. Most folks who bother with puppy classes have had their puppies checked by a vet.

Your vet should also be able to recommend a training facility near you. My vet had recently gone through puppy kindergarten with her own dog, so she had a lot of information. I can recommend some great places in our area, but it is a little way to travel for you. (I'm in Arlington)

I clicked around and found this list for Mass. Looks like a few good places to check out. Keep in mind when you are looking for a trainer, you want progressive + positive. Interview and check out all the places before handing the money in.

I'd also go with a club that offers higher levels, including agility and comp obedience. Not saying you should keep going that way if that's not your thing, but it is a guarantee that your teachers will be committed to teaching you to train your dog. Because they will want to get you back for the next level and keep you in the system.

You can also go on Barkbytes.com and click on clubs to find training clubs, especially if you plan to go beyond Puppy K and Ob1. One warning I should throw out there, google the names of the clubs instead of clicking on the links. Because sometimes they could be broken and take you somewhere else. I made the mistake of clicking on the link for Shrewsbury DTC and it took me to some scuzz website instead. And of course, I'm here at work. Oh God. o_O

Thank you for your suggestions about shots, etc. I promise she will be properly vaccinated before we start formal training. It probably won't be until after the holidays anyway. I've trained and shown dogs (shelities) before in obedience and conformation, just not in Massachusetts and not for awhile. Last child is heading to college next year, so I am hoping to get back into it. Am looking for a nice place to start classes and one that has many goldens.

We train through an obedience club . It is less expensive, the trainers are very experienced but are volunteers. We went through training there with our other goldens up to CD.
We start Puppy Manners next week with Sasha when he will have all his vacs. : )
