She does make it through the night but I have no idea how she does it. I took her out first thing this morning and she ran around and played for about 45 minutes and then came in and immediately went to go to the bathroom so I raced her back outside and nothing. Then I put her leash on her and she instantly went both pee and poop. it seems like she is associating her leash with going potty...this may be a huge breakthrough for us.

LJilly once put it quite elegantly: at night, nature shuts off the waterworks. Even pups with immature bladders have a much longer period they can go at night.

Our 2 year old, Comet, did not develop full control until that 15th week. He was consistently caught unaware by his bladder and even wet under himself in the crate a few times. At night, though, he could hold it for hours and hours.

Then, at about 15 weeks, the muscle control caught up, and he has been able to hold himself just fine since.

When our's were puppy's I took them out every 30 minutes for the first weeks. I can remember sitting down to watch TV, and every 3rd commercial I would get up and take them out. I don't think I watched an entire program the first several weeks. If they didn't go the first time, I would come in, sit down give it another 10 minutes and take them back out. I use to be the type that never went outside in a bathrobe and slippers. That changed the moment we got puppies!

Though there are many members here that have had success in housebreaking in a few weeks (can't say I was one of those lucky ones), I actually read on a chart of dog characteristics that Goldens, for as smart as they are, were actually slow to learn potty-training.

Our bridge girl Hannah was potty trained in 2 days. No kidding. Only peed on the floor twice. Now Emma took about 2-3 weeks. But she did have a UTI (and keeps getting one). Or is it the same one?

I never restricted water and had no problems house breaking or getting them to sleep through the night. I would be afraid during the summer months especially.

When both my Goldens were that age, I remember taking them out every 20-30 minutes during the day if they weren't crated. Both pretty well slept through the night after being home the first week or so but if they needed out, I took them.

I never restricted water, Kirby had a terrible UTI and so did Sunny, once we got that cured potty training went well. It wasn't 3 days.

Darby used to dump his water bowl and sleep in it, he still will if he is really hot. I don't think restricting water is a solution, especially in girls who are prone for UTIs.
