Neither of my goldens or my lab/golden mix have ever bitten anyone.

Having worked in insurance, though, I will say this - the bite statistics are as they are because Goldens are so popular and so many people own them. That said, for the same reason, so many of those dogs, and the ones that are listed as having bitten, are often poorly bred, BYB dogs with incorrect temperaments. The number of bites, though, correllates with the number of dogs, simply.
The statistic which would be valuable is the percentage of bites per breed, or of injurious bites per breed. And I totally agree with pointgold that the problem with Goldens is that too many have been poorly breed not just for health but for temperament.

Not only poorly bred, but poorly trained. Too many people assume goldens are born perfectly trained.

Wouldn't happen ever. Max wouldn't think to bite no matter what was done to him. It's just not who he is.

VIncent is very nippy...I don't know the difference between nip and bite..but he has been like that since we got him. Through training he has gotten much better...but I still wouldnt trust him alone with kids.

No, my golden has never bitten anyone. But i think it's very irresponsible to say "no way! Not my dog! He would never do that!" because the fact is, dogs have teeth, and they can bite. Assuming that your dog will never bite in ANY situation is dangerous, IMO. I realize that my dogs are just that...dogs. And any dog has the potential to bite in the wrong situation.

It would also be interesting statistically to see what the average age is of dogs who have bitten someone. I don't know if any patterns would surface, but I wonder if the higher percentages would be with younger and/or older dogs. I know I can think of a couple of situations where older dogs who have never bitten someone suddenly did, almost suggesting that maybe some get less tolerant as they get older.
