I am new to this board, and joined because I have an absolutely amazing dog that I need to find a home for due to bankruptcy and having to move.. I cannot afford to have him and cannot have him at an apartment.
His name is Zac and he is a golden retriever, and I have had him since he was a puppy. He is 6 years old, and the most loving dog you could imagine. He ADORES people and kids, and gets along with other cats and dogs. He loves going on walks and the dog park, and pretty much anywhere. He is extremely gentle and good natured and is an ideal family dog. I would so love for him to have a love family where he will be showered with affection and have a really wonderful life. I am also hoping to be able to visit him, because I am devastated that I can not afford to keep him. He is absolutely so well behaved, so friendly, does not chew things in the house except his own toys (and knows what they are), knows many words such as "get your ball", and is extremely smart. He is crate trained, and a beautiful, beautiful dog. I am hoping so much to find a good home for him.
If anyone here is interested, please let me know. I am located in Kelowna (Winfield), BC, Canada
Hi Kristen I am so sorry to hear about the situation you are in and that you need to re-home your pup. He does sound like a wonderful boy. There are many members from Canada and bordering states. Hopefully some one will be able to help. I am sure you will hear from someone.
If you bought your Golden from a breeder contact your breeder to see if he/she will take him back. Failing that, please contact the Canadian Golden Retriever Rescue. My husband and I are involved (he's the webmaster) and I cannot tell you how impressed I am with how wonderful these rescue people are. Your dog will be placed into a foster home until they can find the right forever family. Adoptive families are screened rigorously and the foster families are just wonder people with lots of dog experience. Go to http://www.golden-rescue.net/ and you will find instructions on how to contact them and the process. You will need to fill out the adoption intake form. I believe you will be contacted by a rescue member within 24 hours.
I am so sorry you are going through this right now. I cannot imagine your heartbreak.
I couldn't imagine having to make that decision. I would love nothing more than to have a playmate for Riley. My brother-in-law has his brother just a mile down the road and they play constantly. Unfortunately, you are in BC and I'm in PEI. All the best in finding him a wonderful home.
I am so sorry! Your boy sounds wonderful and I hope through rescue or here , you are able to find him a good home. These are sad times when people are losing their homes and having to give up their beloved companions.
I hope you find the home you are both looking for. Remember, there are good people out there who will sometimes care for your dog until you are back on your feet. I would give my niece's dog a home in an instant, temporarily or permanently.
Thank you so much everyone... I really appreciate your comments.
I love my dog so much, am hoping that he will be able to find a home where I can visit him. I will talk to the rescue organization mentioned and see if that could be an option. I don't want to loose contact with him completely tho I love him so much, knowing I could see him or visit him would really be wonderful.
Here are some photos of my sweet boy. He is with my other dog Hugo, a cane corso, whom I am also trying to find a home for. Hugo would be best with a family without children, and as an only dog, as some other dogs might not mix with his personality. he is good friends with my golden (Zac), but not sure how he would be with a new dog as he has known Zac a long time.
So, the photos show each of them. If anyone is interested in Hugo as well, please let me know. He is a very sensitive dog and needs someone who can give him a lot of time and patience. He is a dominant breed and has natural guarding instincts, but is VERY sensitive and needs a gentle, relaxed family. He needs gentle care and takes time to bond with someone. He has a lot of fears and seems to think he is a small vulnerable dog rather than a huge cane corso!
Zac would be amazing with a family with children and other pets, as he is so very loving and tolerant.
what beautiful dogs. your heart must be breaking.
Please contact the breeder(s) of the dogs and see if they can make arrangements to take them back, possibly only temporarily until your situation improves. Most good breeders will take their dogs back at any time, and will re-home them for you to an excellent home.
I wish you the best.
I'm also sorry you are faced with this heartwrenching decision. Have you tried contacting the breeder you purchased him from yet? Most reputable breeders will take the dog back and or help you re-home them. Failing that, please contact Wendy Lau either through the Golden Retriever Club of BC. www.grcbc.org or directly at goldenplacement@grcbc.org. She is the rescue co-ordinator for our club and may be able to help you out. She is located in Vancouver but I know she has connections throughout BC. I know there are at least a couple of breeders in the interior (near you) also, that may be able to assist you in placing Zac.
Please keep us posted and feel free to PM me.
We'll keep you in our hopes & prayers that things work out and you only end up needing someone to keep him temporarily. You can tell they both are well treated and well loved dogs. Best of luck and post here often to let us know how things are going. :crossfing
I am in s Florida.....but we recently got our pup from a golden rescue here. They were fantastic. If I ever had to make your difficult decision, I would lean toward a rescue org, that would check out prospective homes. Sending prayers for you and your pups.
aw... i live in Illinois.. i would take him in a heartbeat! just the dog i'm looking for! the only problem would be you getting to see him it's a long drive :'(
So sorry to hear about your situation. I couldn't imagine going through the financial stress in addition to giving up your beautiful furry boys! I wish you and the dogs all the best and remember that anytime you need a "golden fix", you are always welcome to stop in at GRF to check out pictures or chat with us!
Please keep us posted as to the outcome of the pups!
I too am sorry to hear this. I'm sure it's been one of the toughest decisions you've ever had to make and I know you want to find the best home for him. He's a lovely dog, reminds me of my Seamas. Best of luck in finding him a loving home. BTW I know how expensive dog ownership can be after a recent trip to the vet.

I think that is very doubtful since this thread is over 7 years old. You may want to remove or ask the moderators to remove your phone number. As you have just found, these threads live forever and you probably don't want your phone number out there for all to see.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
