Obsessive licking

My boy is 10 months old and has been through a lot allergy wise. I think we are finally getting a handle on the itching, but I think it has caused him to become an obsessive licker. Does anyone have any experience dealing with this. He licks everything: himself, people, floors, my cat ( who really dislikes his bathes). He is so young I'd hate for this to be a life long thing.

I'm not sure with the licking others(our pup, almost a year does lick us a lot- usually when we first come home or in the morning when she's perceived we've been away from her) but when she licked herself(particularly her paws) it was/is allergies. She suffers from both food & environmental allergies. She licked her paws so much she caused an infection although she has no open wounds!

Vet has her on an antibiotic and a wash for her paws(and body should she need it!) If he's still licking himself, especially his paws, I'd venture to bet his allergies are still giving him an issue!

I'd check with the vet, too. They'd be the best to help treat. Hope he feels better soon!

What kind of allergy he has? Is it related food? Are you giving him any medication?

If he has food allergy or on any medication, possibly his tummy doesn't feel so good?! Mine would lick floor, wall, his toys, bed & himself whatever he can reach when he has upset or uncomfortable tummy. My vet said it is one of symptoms for upset/uncomfortable stomach..

Good luck to you & your boy.

He has food and environmental. He is finishing up antibiotics. He been on antibiotics a lot. The allergies kept causing infections. He just got the cytopoint shot and will do the allergy testing in acouple weeks. He has always been a dog that licks more than others, it has just gotten much worse. I've planned to talk to the vet about it when we go back. It seems partly affection, but also boredom or not feeling well.
