Clearances in TN?

Hi all,
I can't believe it but Ollie will be 2 at the end of March. As he approaches his 2nd birthday, I would like to get his hips/elbows done as well as an eye and cardiac clearance. This would be solely for my piece of mind as he's on limited registration and will not be bred.

Does anyone have any suggestions for Vets in the Nashville and/or Clarksville, TN area that perform these clearances?

Thanks in advance!
Medda

Here's a couple of recent photos!

1st - Ollie with the biggest stick (branch) he could find in the yard!
2nd - showing off his recently brushed pearly whites!

Your best bet in my opinion is in Franklin, David Bernander. Welcome | Caring Hands Animal Hospital - Franklin, Tennessee
Now- do not expect anything fancy there as it is basically a dump unless they've done something different recently- but he is very good at positioning.
Eyes- Veterinary Ophthalmology Services Animal Eye Care Clinics I like Drs Larotta and Husky = don't know the other two on the website.
I don't know a veterinary cardiologist there but probably Larotta or Bernander could give you a referral.
And good for you for doing them!!

LOL_ I just went to the Bernander's site and this review is there (so I guess it's still a dump!) "It's true that this practice may not be in a new and shiny building, but you cannot get a better more caring doctor than Dr. B! And, since when does your dog care what his surroundings look like? "

I am not familiar with TN so if my suggestion is too far away, sorry.

I'm in E TX and have been doing research to do the same thing. There is a health clinic scheduled in Franklin, TN March 11. They will offer eye & heart testing. This is the most economical way to go if you can. It's not necessary to wait until they are two to do these.

March 11 but you need to contact the Nashville Kennel Club to make a reservation and possibly pre pay. I don't have their web/email information but sure you can google it. I got the information on the Onofrio.com/plist/nash1pl.pdf

Hope this helps. You can get both clearances for less than going to a private eye clinic.

Thanks Robin, you are faster and have more detailed info. :-)

That's a good clinic- Drs Larotta and Huskey usually do it.. and usually the cardiologist from UT comes and does the cardiacs in her motorhome . Plan to hang out most the AM (and don't think you can do hips/elbows while you're in Franklin because the Bernanders typically are showing their setters at that hometown show).

I'm trying to decide about going if there is still space available. It's over 9 hrs from here but the only other clinic available is in Tulsa and it's almost 7 so??? I did make an appointment with the eye clinic in N Dallas as it's only about 3 hrs and won't have to board my other dogs. To make a 9 hr trip required me boarding the other 2 and getting a motel so actually cheaper to just pay the extra to the eye clinic. But having trouble finding a cardio... still working on that one.
Thanks for giving more detail, I didn't have a clue... just something I found on Onofrio in my searches.

There is a decent La Quinta two exits up toward Nashville (but I doubt you will come that way so maybe stay en route). When you get there, they do not allow dogs to enter in the front so if you can find parking near to the back of the building, it'd put you closer to the cardiac clinic assuming she still brings her motor home and then you could just go in from the back. It's a huge building and on a hill so parking in the wrong area could give you a cardio workout.

Talking

Hi all,
Thanks for the great information! I was able to get both his cardiac and eye clearances done yesterday at the Music City Cluster dog show. He passed both without issue - YAY! Dr. Husked was the one doing eyes and was great.

I have to brag a second. I couldn't believe how well Ollie behaved at the show. He went through the basic Petco puppy/adult training and got his Canine Good Citizen over a year ago. I work with him all the time at home but it's difficult to really expose him large crowds and animals because we basically live in the middle of farm land with a very small town close by. He was the prefect canine good citizen yesterday!!!! He didn't bark, pull, or get anxious at all. He sat nicely while waiting for his appointments even with all the commotion going on around him. He walked well throughout the arena and vendors without pulling. I was actually really impressed with him yesterday.

Since he was such a good boy, of course he got treats, a new collar and leash combo, and I got him a service/therapy vest to start wearing. I wasn't sure he would have the temperament for therapy work (still not certain) but thought we would get a vest to wear and get comfortable with it.

Thanks again for the information. We now need to schedule his hips and elbows once he turns 2.

Ollie is so handsome! I love the picture of him with his giant stick.

Very glad for your good news with his clearances thus far. I don't blame you for bragging - sounds like he was a perfect gentleman!
