Struggling with name!

Hi all, been awhile! Now that the children are getting a little bigger and a little more independent, I decided it was time to get another puppy. But I am struggling with a call name. I'm super picky (being a vet I have negative associations with several names!).

My "rules":

Preferably a "human" name
One or two syllables
Not super common , but doesn't have to be unique
Must be easy to pronounce (so it's easy for ring stewards to call our name properly)
I'd like it to correspond with a good registered name
Pup is a girl, so slightly more feminine is preferred, but not strictly necessary

I like the name Raine (Kennel Name's Calm Before the Storm), but my husband doesn't really like it.

I wouldn't mind a name who's meaning is "3" as this will be my third performance dog and third dog from these bloodlines. I'm not thrilled with Trey (esp. for a girl) or Tres (I can see that being mispronounced).

I currently have Ruby and Piper (both girls) and previously had Sage (boy).

Not a big fan. Trinity itself is too long and not overly fond of just Trin.

Not sure if this counts, but Thalia? One of the three Graces in Greek Mythology. Trinity?

Doesn't roll off my tongue...I'm a poor handler in agility and call my dogs by name (A LOT!).

I love Piper!!
My favorite name of my dogs, probably ever!

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions so far! Keep them coming.

I wasn't feeling Trinity either, but I figured that just because I didn't like it, doesn't mean no one else would like it :)

Jolie? Rose? Willow? Harper?

I have a friend getting a golden puppy for agility and we've been trying to find a good one syllable name (easier to call out in a pinch), and it's hard!

If you like the registered name you have picked out (Calm before the storm), what about Skye? Or Flurry (like a snow flurry)?

I like Tris but DH thinks it's "weird".

I have too many dog friends that have recently used names I like. I like Skye but a friend has a Skye and one of my daughter's friends is Skye.

A non-human name would have to be spectacular for me to decide on it. Not sure I'm ready to give up yet!

Why do I have to prefer girls? I find their names much harder! I've got a list a mile long of boy names I like. Ran into this problem with my first daughter too. We were still discussing names on the way to the hospital.

I'm about ready to tell DH that this is MY dog (because it truly is) and I'm naming her what I want. I never asked him with the others and he didn't seem to have any objections. Not sure why he's so interested this time. I was disappointed I couldn't get the kids on board with Raine either. They name half their stuffed animals and dolls Rainbow, Sparkle, etc.

Some of my favorite female names: Eden, Aspen, Laken, Brooke, Serena, River, Journey, Adele, Sydney, Whitney, Bayou, Phara

I never have girls so will never use any of them!

Not good at this, but I like:

Blair (Scottish for "field" ) In the urban dictionary it means "the state of being strong, creative, and beautiful

Claire (French for "clear", as in "Calm Before the Storm" :D

Faye (Middle English meaning "fairy" or French meaning "loyalty"

I regret not naming Shala Summer. She would have been a perfect Summer - and so many people mispronounce her name. I love Shala, but I don't understand why so many people call her Shay-la. :| So I'm totally with you on a name that no one will mispronounce.

Human sounding names for dogs: I like Holly, Callie, Kylie.

I do love Trinity - I love the word. It's part of the name of our park that we go to most days.

Someone mentioned Flurry - I think that's a great name for a dog. Willow is very pretty. Lake. Sky.

Welcome back, by the way!!

How about Alydar? If you know the name you know he's the only triple-crown runner-up (AFAIK) so that gets with the "3" theme.

As far as human names, it's really hard to find one with a 3 theme. Trinity has been suggested and rejected. Perhaps something only vaguely 3-related? Like maybe Donny, after Don Mclean, famous for the song lyrics "and the three men I admired most, the father son and the holy ghost". Or maybe after an author who is known for a triad of books like Tolkien. Euclid was known for geometry and triangles. The Brady Bunch girls were 3, Marsha Jan and Cindy. You could go a military route and pick any of Grace Murray Hopper's names. Maybe you have a favorite "3rd" movie like Toy Story 3, plenty of names there. The 3 Magi have names too, although all male, but Magi or Magic can be derived from them.

Or you can give up and name her Tricky Woo. :)

Welcome back! I was just thinking the other day that I had not seen you post in a couple years.

I worked with a girl whose name was Tracy, she said her father was a gambler and had named her after "treys" or threes.

I don't get much time to come online anymore, but happy to see some familiar names still here and that I'm remembered! My human girls are getting ready to turn 3 and 5 so keep me fairly busy. Hopefully I will b email back a bit more after the puppy comes, I think I've forgotten a lot in the last 7 years.

I'm really liking Tris now, so I'm going to work on DH some more. Registered name would be Kennel Name's Third Time's the Charm.

Good to see you! I can't believe your oldest is almost five.

I always wanted to name a girl Splenda, but no girls in this house.

I have a friend who had a Cavalier named Splenda. Her previous dog was named Sugar, so she named the next Splenda - the Sugar substitute!
